I'm celebrating another June 1st today. Friends treated me to lunch, I got my hair done and bought myself a few things plus my sons are gonna do something for me later today, so needless to say I'm feeling grateful.

But this year I have a little something extra to be happy about. Yesterday I had the day off, so I took my son to his Dr. appt. While we were waiting I decided to go to a nearby McDonald's for coffee and a biscuit so I could take my medication. The light at the main intersection was red so I decided to cut down one of the side streets to get there.


I get about halfway down the block and I see a small boy, barefoot and still in his pj's who couldn't have been more than three step off the curb so I slowed down, then stopped my car because he literally kept walking till he was in the middle of the street. Then he stopped right in front of the car with his little arms stretched out and smiled.

I put the car in park and looked around thinking that any minute somebody would come running to get him but there was nobody in sight, so I opened the door and told him to get in, which he did. Then I parked my car and called the police.

For some reason it took the cops danm near fifteen minutes to get there and the whole time I was looking around for someone missing a kid....nothing. In the meantime I kept him calm and amused by talking and singing to him. I couldn't make out his name or his parent's name and when I asked where his mommy was he kept saying Dunkin Donuts. When I told him someone was coming to take him home, he said he didn't want to go because there was a mouse there.

Good lord I tell ya...he didn't appear abused or neglected at all and was very cheerful and chatty the whole time we waited. I'm still wondering what the hell happened?

He had what looked like his house keys in his hand and I'll be damned if I know how he got out of the house without anyone missing him but I was sure glad that I happed to come along when I did because he was headed toward a major highway in one direction and back in the other direction is a canal.

The cops finally showed up, took some info from me and put him in the cruiser. I haven't heard anything on the news but I hope and pray everything turned out okay. I wish I had thought to take a pic of him so I would have a memento of the little friend I made on the eve of my b-day.

UPDATE; I contacted a friend who knows an officer on the force and he checked it out. It seems my little friend snuck out of the house while his mom was sleeping. She finally came looking for him before child welfare authorities arrived and the cops checked her out. Apparently she had no priors and since there were no signs of abuse the returned him to mom.

I don't know whether or not she will be monitored but no arrest was made. Hopefully this will be the only incident and everybody will live happily ever after.

Thanks so much, I was calm till everything was over and I started thinking about all the things that could have happened. I was surprised nothing was on the news but maybe that means the found the parents very quickly.

Oh wow...that is amazing and I wish I knew what happened to him. I wonder how the police would even figure out where he lived?? Reminds me of the time I decided to get up at the crack of dawn and take my little sister to the Hampton Park Zoo in Charleston, SC. I was 4 and she was 3. We lived about a mile and half from the zoo on Beaufain St. I got us dressed and took her hand and we walked right out the front door. My mom and step-dad were asleep. They never even heard us.

I was almost to the zoo when a lady spotted us from her porch and asked where we thought we were going and where did we live. She took us home.


So glad it was YOU that put him in the car and not some perv.

Thanks sis...my son was at the Doctor's office wondering what was taking me so long to come back. His jaw dropped when I told him. Then he and my oldest son started cracking Charles Ramsey jokes because I was going to McDonalds at the time...

He was sooo cute, with a head full of curls. I guess maybe there really was a mouse and he decided to go looking for his mom instead of staying put. I sure hope he's okay.

The police dept is literally four blocks away and I can't imagine what took them so long to get there.

They were stiil there when I was on my way back from getting food but they were gone by the time we left the doctors office.

I may go and ask for a copy of the report on Monday or ask one of the cops at work to get it for me.
