Thanks...I hope so too. I was thinking of calling the PD but if anything is amiss they'll probably contact me as a witness or something.
Yeah, if you don't hear from them then take it as good news.

...and what a blessing that you happened across that child. Imagine a distracted (cellphone/texting) driver zooming down that street at that moment instead?
Anyway...happy BDay again.
Thanks bro...hopefully he is being better supervised after this.

OK. I'm late but not really. I consider all birthdays that fall on Friday or Saturday are extended thru the weekend plus Monday. I ain't late to the party. So...

Thanks,
I'll probably ask one of the officers at work to check for me when I get back. Hopefully mom and dad are keeping him close by from now on.

UPDATE; I contacted a friend who knows an officer on the force and he checked it out. It seems my little friend snuck out of the house while his mom was sleeping. She finally came looking for him before child welfare authorities arrived and the cops checked her out. Apparently she had no priors and since there were no signs of abuse the returned him to mom.
I don't know whether or not she will be monitored but no arrest was made. Hopefully this will be the only incident and everybody will live happily ever after.

She might want to do what I did. When my middle son was about five he began to have nightmares. Then he began to walk in his sleep. I took him to a doctor who just told me to monitor him. Well I tried but when I got home from work I was exhausted. I made sure he was asleep first and then I went to bed one night. I woke up at about 3am to loud knocking on my door. I ran downstairs and there was this security guard standing outside with my son. He said he found him walking in his pajamas up by Walmart. My son didn't remember a thing. I was crying and terrified.
I then bought chain locks and put them on all the downstairs doors way up at the top so he couldn't reach them. I was still scared he might try to climb out a window so I made him sleep with me until he grew out of it... His siblings still tease him about sleeping with his mom until he was nine.

Good lord, that must have been harrowing!
My mother told me I used to walk in my sleep when I was little. Fortunately she always found me and put me back in bed before I could escape the house.

Good to know that the kid is on the radar.
I hope it was just a one-time that the mother accidentely fell asleep while kid was around, and dad was away.

It was. Most nights I didn't even sleep. If I did every time he turned over I jumped up scared to death. I'd just never had any experience with a child taking off in the middle of the night.

My mom lived alone for awhile so she hung bells on her door knobs to alert her if anyone messed with her doors. When I had kids, I did that to alert me if they were messing with the doors. When we were up they'd play with the bells and I'd know where they were. If we were down for the night, it would let me know if they'd gotten out of bed. I'm firmly planted in denial |

I've had chimes hanging on every door in my house since my kids were young.

Me too. I agree about putting bells on the doorknobs, that is a very good idea. Either that, or get an alarm system that will go off if that little boy opens the door. I know that alarm systems can be pricey, though. The mom may not be able to afford one. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you. |
