How's food for you? A decade ago, I did not belief that food could have a large effect on me.
After a solid executed research after the influence of diet on ADHD symptoms, I was convinced.
So, I started a few food diet and experimented with what kind of ingredients have an influence on me.
And it's amazing.
Coffee makes me paranoid.
Since I don't eat dairy and gluten anymore, I'm not as tired as before anymore, no more depressions and I'm not as insecure anymore.
Especially not being insecure anymore, I find a very strange effect.
So, these experiences have convinced myself that food influences strongly the (bacterial and cellular) balance in my body.
Even to the level that food has an impact on neuron flows!
Did anybody else experiment with different ingredients and what kind of effect they have on your emotions, well-being or tiredness/energy level?

I am changing... I hit 41 and now I get sick when I eat.
I love rich foods and portions are outta control. I am an over eater. I am fat...
but over eating is not what is changing my attitude about food.
Its the sickness I get when I eat certain things.
I LOVE garlic... I feel sick when I do not eat enough, and it has to be freshly peeled and crushed. I need the fresh oils from the garlic. I HATE garlic powder and garlic that is pre-jarred.
I NEED water now... from the tap please... I crave it. I also crave MY coffee, not American coffee which makes me ill.
Now I can not do greasy or fried anything... it makes me ill, and the other day I ate a brownie after eating a plate of pasta with italian sausage...
the brownie (home baked) made me ill. Like I had too much sugar and I felt nausea after eating the brownie.... this happens also when I eat cookies after a meal for dessert.
I need certain things in my diet... but I devore fresh blueberries and now I like to swallow fresh aloe.
Its slimy, slightly bitter but I need the aloe now.
and chocolate... dark, rich, 80% or more...
no more vodka... I get sick, very sick... headaches are quick to surface and then nausea hits. I can not drink vodka or other liquors except rum.
Rum is weird... I can drink it straight up in large amounts and not get a more than a soft buzz.
So weird. | |

My taste buds have definitely evolved as I get older. I enjoyed grilled mushrooms & yellow peppers at a BBQ last summer, which ordinarily make me gag.
I have always enjoyed greasy, fried foods, but now I'm tempering that stuff because it doesn't agree with me so much. I'm getting into soups & stews - which I used to DETEST when I was young.
And beans - which I've been eating since I was weaned off of the bottle - give me gas. :farts:
Sucks getting old.
I have decreased my portions. I am drinking more water. I have cut my consumption of soda (especially since most fountain soda gives me the runs).
As for food making me sick...beef & dairy give me sinus congestion. It's not a falsehood. I can't have a cheeseburger everyday, like I used to, because after 2 or 3 consecutive days I'll wake up with postnasal drip and feel like crap all day.

Ex-Moderator | I eat healthfully the majority of the time - lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains, minimal processed food, etc.
When I splurge on a meal of food I don't eat often (like something greasy) my body definitely can tell a difference.
I believe I'm mildly lactose intolerant as eating a bowl of a cream-based soup will leave me feeling gross and yucky and nauseated. But, as I said, it's only mild as I eat greek yogurt every morning, enjoy a splash of milk in my tea and can eat a scoop or 2 of ice cream with no issue. I never drink a full glass of milk and even as a child I never liked it.
I used to be SUPER sensitive to caffeine where even a cup of coffee would have me bouncing off the walls and jittery but I've since built up enough of a tolerance to enjoy the odd second cup when I want one.
I'd like to start cutting down on diet soda. I generally have about one a day and there's just no need for it. |

Raw; fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. It's great for me.

I discovered over 15 years ago that I do best when I limit my carbohydrate intake. I eat pasta only on rare occasions (sometimes, I get a craving for mac-n-cheese that won't be denied) and then, only in small quantities.
I try to limit my sweets to a couple squares of dark chocolate a day - or a cup of hot cocoa with peppermint schnapps. If I'm going to splurge on something sweet, it usually involves chocolate. Though I find that if I overeat chocolate, it gives me heartburn - which never used to happen.
I've given up caffeine more or less completely. I only drink decaf coffee now, and my only caffeine is an occasional Diet Coke from McDonald's. I don't know why, but Diet Coke tastes completely different there than anywhere else. I hate DC in a bottle or can, but from McDonald's over ice with a straw? Yum.
I need a crapload of protein to feel my best (because I need the calories to replace the carbs I don't eat). I try to eat close to 100g/day. I always have meat at lunchtime (usually on a salad).
I also eat a lot of fat - olive oil in my salad dressing, cheese on my salad, full-fat cottage cheese for breakfast, a good ploosh of half-n-half in my coffee. If I don't get enough fat, it affects my mood and I wind up so hungry I could gnaw my own limbs off. By good fat, I mean fat that occurs naturally - as an intrinsic part of meat or whole milk (including butter), or that is cold pressed and minimally processed (like olive or coconut oil).

Sweet tooth has disappeared since my late 20s.
I need to eat pasta every day to feel like I've really had my fill.
I need a lot of protein. I get 200-300 grams per day. Almost everything I buy is influenced by its protein content. I've had over 100g of protein by 8am when breakfast is done with. I fart quite a bit.

I can eat cheese within moderation just fine, but other dairy products my body doesn't process well including yogurts. My sugar craving drop significantly when I eat rices (mostly a wild rice mix), potatoes (skins on) and pastas, and I get massive sugar craving especially when I'm on a consistant exercise regiment. I find a lot of processed foods unsatifying, I'm not crazy about going out to resturants to eat because of this. I'm very sensitive to caffeine. I feel my best when I drink a lot of water (20oz) first thing in the morning, as well as through the day. Grains are a mystery to me, I seem fine with wheat and corn even though there is too much of it in a lot of processed foods, but oats upset my system something crazy. I get headaches from eating raw onion, but cooked onions are fine. I love and still eat fried foods, but I found out years ago that dumping a lot of fat into my system at one time will send my doubled over in pain, that ended a couple of bad habits.

I have IBS, so I was put on an elimination diet back when I was getting diagnosed and that's where I learned what my body wouldn't tolerate. I don't do well with dairy. I can have it in small amounts, like a glass of milk or a bit of cheese, but I really have to watch it because if I overdo it, I get violently ill. I can't eat ice cream or any kind of cream based soups or sauces at all. I can eat yogurt without any problem. I try to eat fried, fatty foods as little as possible. I try not to eat breads, pasta, or cereals because they leave me bloated to the point that I look several months pregnant and I feel that they zap my energy levels. I can't eat grapes or mushrooms and there are some vegetables that I can eat when cooked, but not raw. I've always been a little sensitive to caffeine, but I was able to tolerate coffee until just recently
My diet consists of a lot of vegetables and fruits, lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, brown rice, oatmeal, nuts, greek yogurt, and dark chocolate . I don't drink any soda or juice. I mostly only drink water and tea.

I usually enjoy cooking, but not always eating

I've heard that often.

I'm living on weight care meal replace powder now. Just don't have any money at the moment.
And I notice it's really draining my energy.
I'm craving for fruit and vegetables
When I've got everything worked out again, I plan to make myself a food plan.
One that I can afford and gives me energy and does not drain my mood or body.

Last night I made pinapple, orange, meyer lemon, ginger, tumeric for a dessert. I could have put it in an icecream maker it was that delicious. The first juice of the day usually has a bunch of kale/spinach an apple/blueberry, carrot/beet combo. Cabbage and fennel at night. Fennel counter acts the cabbage side effects. .

Everyone is different and u really really really gotta be in tune with your body and see what works for u. Some people can't do smoothies.....they have to chew their greens rather than drink them or they will bloat up like a balloon. Some people cant digest raw greens at all and need them lightly sauteed. Some people need whole grains some people cant eat ANY grains. Pay attention to your body and do what's best for you..but do your best to eat clean.
