The Thrawn Trilogy is not being used.

Nor are any of the extended universe books and series.

The movie will be an original story, probably borrowing elements from the movie.

Hammil will reprise his role to some capacity as will Fischer.

But Disney has already said that movies outside the Skywalker episodes will be filmed.

Yeah Disney is pretty much milk the franchise for all its worth. I expect an ewok movie by 2017. confused

I am more concerned about the status of Clone Wars, which arguably has been the greatest achievement of the SW Universe since the original trilogy.

they have confirmed that they WON'T be using ANY plot of the Post-ROTJ Expanded Universe comics/books/games

I couldn't care less, the "Thrawn trilogy" was cheese of the lowest caliber, IT FUCKIN' SUCKED!!!! IT SUCKED!

but the characters could appear though, I mean, Lucas sure knows that fans are expecting Mara Jade

Disney could decide that it will not set a precedent and let fans dictate the plots and scripts, reasoning that fans should simply be happy these Eps are being made. Still, the prequels were true to the mythology around the original trilogy, so it would be reasonable to introduce Mara Jade . . . a nice counterpart to the "star-crossed" Anakin-Padme storyline.

I am so pleased with the choice.

I think JJ is really interested in character depth. He brought the Lost, Fringe and Star Trek characters to life.

He is a Star Wars nut (Lost was full of Star Wars references) so he knows where the fans will want him to go. He'll tread carefully and bring on lots of obscure links in the Star Wars universe.

Hearing that he has been chosen got me more excited that the disney announcement.

His favourite film is Empire and he hated the ewoks. It bodes well......

I'm hoping he doesn't make the same mistakes with SW that Spielberg/Lucas made with Indiana Jones. Karen Allen is a great actress, but was completely out of place in that film. It felt...awkward. And of course, the plot and overall story was stupid.

Abrams won't make the same mistake with the plot here, but just throwing the 3 original actors into this film is not enough. The focus should be on young, fresh new characters, and the older ones should enhance it, but not be the main focus.
