I watched a documentary about Wavy Gravy this afternoon, which really has nothing to do with anything, other than the fact that Wavy is a very interesting fellow who has led an extremely cool life (my opionion of course, but then I've actually met the guy, so there's that, too).

But in this documentary, he and his wife talk about having and naming their son. At birth, for the first 13 years of his life he was...

Howdy Do-Good Gravy Tomahawk Truckstop Romney

No. Seriously. lol

The first part is a play on words - "How'd he do?" "Good." - with Wavy's last name. It was meant to inspire him to, ya know, do good.

The second part is where the kid was born, with her last name. While at the truckstop, her water broke. There was no reason for them to go anywhere, because they were travelling hippies at the time. Midwives abound n' stuff, I would imagine. Anyway, while she was in labor she was staring at the sign on the truckstop which read..

Welcome

Tomohawk Truckstop

Evidently she took the "sign" literally. lol

Crazy damn hippies. I love 'em. lol I don't believe there is a state in the Union that would even allow you to register that as an official baby name these days. Regardless, when the kid was 13 (the legal age one can change their name, evidently) he chose Jordan Romney for himself. It seemed as though he did so with their blessing, and he's a totally normal adult who is tight with both his parents, who have been married for more than 40 years.

All those would be OK as middle names, so the child could choose whether or not they wanted to acknowledge their existence. lol

Dhantara

I kind of like that name. Dhanatra doesn't suck, either. Keep in mind, Cerebus ain't havin' no kids. So he's like, naming pets n' shit. lol

Lucifer

GTFOH! lol

Repelus

I like that name... for a D&D character. lol

Adolf

Very old German name, it means noble wolf (Adelwolf). Nothing wrong with that one.

Obamason

OK, clearly, that's a stupid name. But its also kind of fun. "Heeeey, what's goin' on Obamason?" lol

I'm obviously no help there. lol I've never had to name a kid, never will, and I don't have any family or friends that have named theirs anything crazy. If they did, I would sure as hell ask them why. lol

Repelus highfive

And it's meanings are cool, too. Morning star, the son of the morniing, light-bearer, bearer of light, and it's used as a name for Venus (the morning star). But for the foreseeable future it's linked to Satan, which would be a messed up thing to do to your kid. lol

My youngest daughter has told me that when she has a baby she wants to name he or she Sorrow. She's gone very Jack Nicholson, she just "likes the sound of it."

She's trying to get me to believe that I've convinced her not to name a child that, name a pet that instead, but she's a strong willed one. I very well may end up with a grand baby named Sorrow.

I knew someone named Music, which is just not the nicest sounding name.

I know someone named Lyric, and that is a lot better.

It's obvious that Mitt Romney should have played up his association (relation?) with Wavy Gravy.

A child I know is named Hope and her sister Destiny. I like those names. The again English is not my first language, maybe I'd feel different if it was. One of my ex-bf's sisters is namend Nature and 2 of his brother's Life and Jungle...those name's are a different story even though they grew up in the rain forest which makes it a bit more "normal".

Here in Austria there are quite some Adolfs who were named at the times Hitler was in charge and now they call themselves Adi or Dolfi because Adolf would be such a no-go. I never heard of anybody here who dared to name their child Adolf after WW 2 ended. It might be an old name, but it will forever be associated with Hitler.

I've only known one Adolf, and he was about my age, so that would be post WWII. I think it was a family name for him and he loved it. But all this is obviously in the US, not Germany or Austria.

Well, you can pretty much bet your bottom dollar that if a name begins with "La" or "Le," there's a black parent somewhere in the mix. They seem to have an affinity for the french prefixes. rolleyes lol
