The ones suspected of dying of food poisoning? confuse

It always stuns me how folks think deaths of foreign visitors are happen on large scales in Thailand in comparison to other places.

Just around that time, a man died of a shark attack on his honeymoon Seychelles, and other deaths occcured, etc.

Bangkok is the world's third most visited city in the world, so things will happen, some by accident, and some dubious, but certain not at rates in excess to anywhere else.

I've never felt unsafe here. shrug

Yeah, that case is suspect, but these incidents don't outnumber other places around the world.

I mean, youd' find some really strange things happening to tourists in Miami, New York, or L.A. in numbers that are the same or exceed Thailand, but folks aren't afraid of the US for that.

I think the scariest thing about Thailand is the tourists.

yeah I agree that everywhere is potentially dangerous and it shouldn't be narrowed down to one, but I have a habit of avoiding areas if something bad has happened, even where I live though I eventually get over that

A kiwi in Aussie? Gotta be Gold Coast! lol Maybe ZK mentioned it? Boy is set in the '80s on the East Coast (Waihau Bay). It was pretty funny.

Born in Invercargill, went to school Tauranga and lived in Auckland from mid '90s, did the move about 2 years ago. I'm a little bit over Surfers already. I could go for Bora Bora for awhile.

You know...I wasn't going to ask because I didn't want to assume that my trips inspired you to take a liking to MB.

But now that you say so... highfive

The houses are beautiful down there. I would want to live along the Intercoastal Waterway...

Then whever the mood strikes, the beaches are a short drive away....

It's very "tourist-y" so if you have local beaches that you go to anyway, you probably won't find it as appealing.

But for a New Yorker, it's worth the 14-hour drive.

Make sure you have plenty of cash on hand if you decide to hit a buffet.
