The REAL YOU online

Do you portray yourself honestly on the internet?

Seriously. One of the advantages of the cyberworld is that we can almost recreate ourselves and say/do things we may not in Real Life. For some of us it's an opportunity to let loose and say what's really on our minds. To be completely HONEST. For others, it's a chance to be frealier or nastier than you'd ever really want to be in RL.

Or still yet, for others it may be a chance to create multiple versions of ourselves to play both ends of the field (not saying a thing Dan...not saying a thing...).

But, for the most part, are YOU projecting the REAL YOU online?

The folks here who have met me in the "real world" (there are a couple) will tell you that I am who I am.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My number one rule, I don't say nor type anything online I can't say publicly. Alter egos or being a straight up phony is just a bunch of bullshit and a wast of time. I don't see the point.

I'll say about 85% of me is real. Except for all the " falloff " I post, I laugh but I don't fall off my chair in laughter. lol And I usually don't joke about people in real life unless it's on some sneaky shit. I'm more sneaky in real life than I am here when it comes to that type of thing. lol And contrary to popular belief, I'm not the life of the party either. I'm quiet unless you hung around me for a while.

interesting

some people project their REAL personalities online, basically because of the freedom / lack of consequences...

some people, on the other hand, project an unrealistic / false / distorted and-or exaggerated version of themselves, maybe because they can't be themselves in real life...(for whatever reason)

the duality is interesting

I'd say I'm 80% real and 20% over-the-top, but NOT false...

that basically means that in real life I say the same things I say here lol for better or worse...

I mean yeah I think most of us have over the top personalities when it comes to being online. That's kinda what I said in my original post, I think. You can be wild online. I'm moderately wild here lol

Nope. lol

For what? I think it depends what you come to the net or a website for, I guess. I love good conversation, I love hearing or reading difference points of view. I' m a member of of three other music sites, to create another personality or persona seems weird to me. Besides I've meet so many of my fellow members, I don't think it would work. lol

I'm far quieter than some folks think I am.

I don't like to talk much in crowds.

Albeit, others who have met me (Muse, Carrie, Fauxie, Jerseykrs, sosgemini, etc.) may dissagree.

I'll talk Carrie and Muse to death and joke with them, because I like it when the laugh--they have cute giggles and laughter, and their boobs bounce when they're doing it. Fucking hot.

cborgman probably has seen me at my most broken when I visited him for a few short days in NYC.

He was very sweet, and I wish I could have been more upbeat, but I had been laid off and a few other thing, and was really stressed about getting to Thailand. I owe him alot.

I'm just me on here... but I think I am misunderstood at times or people just don't "get" me if they do not like my responses so they will make me out to be something I am not.

lol

I guess I am a bit more reserved in real time ONLY because some people just can't take criticism easily. So I tend to be "gentle" unless I know the person is in a mature place to have that conversation.

I don't get folks who kinda get bent out of shape because somone has a different point of view. You can make up your mind their this or that because they don't agree with you?

I've definitely inserted foot in mouth several times or thought I was making a quip and it was taken the wrong way... just acknowledge and apologize. So, I try to give the benfit of the doubt as I hope others woud give me.

Mostly me, the only time it's not the real me, is if I am in a conversation that gets a bit heated and I exit - cause that don't happen in real life. If there is an argument to be had, I'm all up in there but online I can't be arsed. lol

I try to be the same online (maybe slightly more honest & open here than on, say Facebook, due to the relative anonymity)

But I have no idea how I come across. You know how some peoples' emails are all bitchy without emoticons? Maybe that's me too.

I'm pretty much the same here as I am in real life. If anything, I'm a little more reserved online, which is kind of silly because of the anonymity. Something about seeing a thought in print, on the Internet for ANYONE to read, kind of scares me! eek lol I also don't curse online like I do in real life. boxed
