It most certainly is, I didn't use much spray though, just braided my hair down at night. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

But since I can't get that Afro Sheen I have to go with Sta Sof Fro.

When I was four, five I had the perfect Afro. Used TCB for hair spray.

My last Afro was a sad attempt. To recover form the damage I slipped into cane rows for a while. My ultimate goal is to get an Afro sheen Afro though.

@ "cane rows"... yeah I didn't take care of my hair when I brought back my 'Fro (just to have cornrows like my cousin had once). Once it got too much to handle (and I was thinning on the front sides of my head lol), I had it cut. I think the first haircut I got to rid my 'Fro back in the day ruined any chance I really had in maintaining all that hair. I look at my 26-year-old nephew's hair and get jealous sometimes that my hair didn't get into a curly Afro puff. I love that type of 'Fro. I swear I thought I was gonna get the Kevin Michael like 'Fro.

That's high on my list of favourite types of Fros. To be honest, I was gonna go for the Jimi Hendrix, but I was talked out of it by more than a dozen people who told me not to and that his hair looked like it was dirty. I like the tight, smooth Afros, but I really like the curly Afros, even something like Maxwell pre-shortness. I love the "looser" look. I envy my mixed (step) brothers, who have curlier hair then I do (although I do prefer my hair). When I was trying to relax it and get a bit of a James Brown look, my hair was so thick that it barely every changed at all. [Edited 6/2/12 17:52pm]

I had a Micheal Jackson 'fro back in the late 60s/70s. Afro Sheen products were a staple in our home.

That's when you first started seeing products for natural hair instead of just straightening products so it was a big deal to us! Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

And then came the Jheri Curl, or rather the California Curl since I grew up under the influence of Willie Morrow who says he was the actual inventor of the Curl.
Since I wasn't allowed to actually let my hair go natural, I did use those really tight rollers to get that curly afro affect, it was okay but not the same. I wish I still had that picture my dad painted of me with the curly fro

What were black folks thinking during the 80s? I never went the Jheri curl route - shit looked wack. And it was funny as hell seeing old folks rocking that mess.

Too funny, those ads were pretty cheep ass, and those are some big mf'in afros, did they ever get Angela Davis to star in one of those. Afros were popular outside of American blacks too, Maoris and Islanders had them, my step father had a Joe Jackson fro with sideburns and a moustache. We used to put ice cream sticks and lolly papers in it as kids when he was driving, and at the end he would shake his hair and all of this shit would come out, we were in Hysterics. I can see this is going to be a lets laugh at Jheri curls (Manes etc) type thread though. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Old Edward Sylvers and his younger brother Foster, they had some big ass ones there. I love that song though, just the whole feel good sound. The last true bubblegum soul group.
Natalie Cole had a huge afro around 1975 and so did Billy Preston in 1974 Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
