No seriously, being a nurse or a doctor is never easy. The jobs are hard sometimes you never get a thank u and on those moments that you do-it matters. Just a quick story: I had a patient that was maybe in her 40's she hated my guts lol cuz I did my job and wouldn't let her get away with every thing lol she called me every name except for a child of God lol one night she took a turn for the worst and almost died. Between me and my cna's we got her life saving treatments and sent her to the hospital. I thought I'd never see her again. She came back about three weeks later, walked up to me, gave me a hug and thanked me for saving her life eek wink I damn near teared up lol the little thank u's matter.

Here's my nurse-appreciation story...

Five years ago, my brother was very sick with AIDS-related lymphoma. He had also fallen and hit his head, so, although he was the most brilliant person I have ever met, he was "not all there." He kept trying to get out of bed, even though he was wobbly and could fall at any time.

Instead of strapping him down, the hospital had nurses sit with him around the clock, 24 hours a day. He had three nurses who sat with him for eight-hour shifts. They were all lovely and wonderful, but one in particular was an angel. My brother spoke over a dozen languages fluently, so he was able to speak with her in her native language. He spent exactly seven days in that hospital, and they seemed to become very close. It was amazing to watch.

The day my brother died, I was a lost soul. I came home to a message from that nurse on my answering machine. She was sobbing so uncontrollably that I could only understand a few of the words she said, but it meant the world to me that she was so moved. I wanted to call her to thank her, but I couldn't make out the phone number she left. All I knew about her was her first name and that she was a pediatric nurse. I spent a long time trying to track her down through the hospital, but I couldn't. I wish I could tell her how much her kindness--both to my brother during the last week of his life, and to me by leaving that message after he passed--meant to me, but I was never able to find out who she was. I saved her phone message for a long, long time because it meant a lot to me. I can only hope that she knows how grateful I am for it.

I agree-my best friend has been a cna for 15 yrs. She is now going to RN school. Their jobs are very difficult and they take so much nonsense from people. Without them nurses couldn't get their jobs done. So they are appreciated and deserve way more pay for their work.

When I get a good nurse(s) like I just had during surgery, I show my appreciation. Payday is Weds and they have a basket of muffins coming. Why do I love them so, they let me take Prince into the OR and made sure his voice was on of the first thing I heard when I woke up. Now that's might fine nursing work!

I love nurses...for all the wrong reasons. I had a beautiful one who set up an arrangement with me where I could stall 2 doses of dilaudid and in the third dose, give them all at once. I really liked her.

I had another nurse who had no problem telling the Dr. It'd be advisable to up the dose I'm my fentanyl drip...at least 4 times.

I had a nurse in pediatrics who would always hunt down a tv/vcr combo from a conference room so I could play Nintendo and watch vhs tapes.

I had another nurse who let me go to the conference room with the big screen so I could post there...iv pole and all. That same nurse fought with the Dr. For me so I didn't have to stay I'm the pediatric ward even though I was 16. This same nurse also didn't shame me when she caught me masturbating to hot latinas telemundo.
