Played hooky and went to see it this afternoon. Loved it, my only (very minor) kvetch being that I did find the story slightly dragging around the 1 hour mark or so.

True indeed. I thought my 10 yo nephew would lose interest.. but they made up for it cool

I just saw it a 2nd with wits my moms smile

She loved it & i had a great time seeing it again. I usually highly dislike the Hulk & find his character boring! but he was great here. I actually gave a damn about his character for once. And Iron Man is really growing on me! i love his smart-ass attitude lol

Just got back from the movie and maaan, it was most excellent! Other than The Hulk, I was never much into The Avengers but I gotta say, DC had better step up their game 'cuz they been served!

The action scenes were gripping and the dialog was less corny than usual. The jokes were perfectly timed and funny as hell.

I would say the acting was better than average too...particularly Robert Downey and the guy who played David Banner.

And why no love for Sam Jackson? I thought he was good.

My favorite line was "Dost thy mother know that thou weareth her drapes?" lol

And of course the best scene is the Hulk smash...I'm still laughing.

Other cool as hell scenes were when the carrier transformed into and aircraft and when Ironman suits up in midair...coooool!

And thank heaven the female team member didn't need rescuing...she held her own big time.

I'll be seeing this one again...all them good lookin' menz ain't to be missed ladies, especially Thor who is downright adorable, biggrin

Saw it a second time this weekend.

I really like Black Widow, and it was great to see her hold her own even when she felt vulnerable and compromised to set it aside and focus on the mission.

It's a subtle change but the popularity of the movie means more female roles will be written this way. (As opposed to the agent in an evening gown, a la Mr. & Mrs. Smith or True Lies.)

She's the best heroine I can think of since Trinity, of The Matrix Trilogy.

Are people staying until the VERY end? There are two scenes once the credits are rolling.

This was fun BUT, it's flaws lie in the plot and also one thing that a lot of comedy shows should pick up on and start having a lot of fun with:

1. The underlying plot still seems tired and uninteresting, and the big spectacle parts are interchangable with Transformers or Battle Los Angeles or a number of movies.

2. This is the comedic part: You're putting together many superheroes from completely different versions of reality, ability, even hyperbole... in other words you are putting a God with magical powers in with a sharpshooter and then pitting them against an alien/supernatural invasion of a warlike scale. The arrow shooting sharpshooter is really a ridiculous participant, but they very cleverly keep it rolling with a lot of forced battle scenarious and quick cuts. I think Joss Whedon is very much aware of this fundamental problem in the concept of these characters in the same "reality", and that's why he so successfully HAD to incorporate a lot of humor, including that very last thing you see before the lights come on.

All in all, it's a very fun movie. I just wish the underlying plot was as fresh and entertaining as the characters and all their moments.

The mechanical serpent looking thingy was too much like the one in Transformers...also, the holding cell where Loki was kept reminded me of the one where Prof. X held Magneto in Xmen.

I never expect much of a plot in these movies, heck back in the day the tv versions were even cornier...these flicks are just for fun.

I thought it was a living creature? (If it was mechanical, then that's a problem for the movie, for me.)

It reminded me of a cross between the Decepticon you are talking about and the monster in Cloverfield for those who saw that, especially with the soldiers jumping out of it.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

One of my favorite lines is Captain America responding the Black Widow.

He seemingly gives her a break, presumably because she's Russian. (Not one of us.)

"There is only one God ma'am, and I'm pretty sure He doesn't dress like that."

I like it because it is so subtly brilliant. Captain America is hearkening back to '40's America. You may call God by another name, but we ALL agreed on the One God.

It's also sneaking in that good ol' American values thing. (Flashing back to Spiderman swinging in front of a huge American flag.)

[This is America's self-righteousness and we approve this message. LOL]

Captain America should be campaigning for Republican candidates. lol 70 years in the ice and he's current with the GOP.

Couple of other good lines.

When Iron Man grabs Hawkeye to take him to the top of the building. "C'mon Legolas."

(A lot of people apparently won't get that one judging from another thread.)

Thor: "He's my brother."

Black Widow: "Your brother killed 80 people in two days."

Thor: "He's adopted."

No surprise, the movie has grossed over a billion dollars worldwide in about two weeks.

Just think how much more money it would have made if people didn't boycott Marvel.

Or don't go see any of their movies. There was some talk about the boycott Marvel movement a few months ago on this Avengers movie thread: http://prince.org/msg/100/375591

I know that's right, lol

He misunderstood what I meant anyway...I was talking about the cliched, damsel in distress type of scene where the poor, helpless woman always falls down or something.
