How Do You Celebrate May Day?

Happy May Day everyone!

I believe May Day is celebrated much more in the UK than here in the US, but when I was little my grandmother always made my sister & I May Day baskets with candy and other little treats.

How do you celebrate?

In the USA, we begin to prepare our digestive systems for the exhorbinant amounts of alcohol that will be comsumed in 4 days.

I always celebrate it by getting drunk for the next 365 days straight.

We made May baskets when I was in elementary school, but I don't know that I've seen or heard of anyone doing anything since then.

Since I'm not a Communist - I don't.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yeah, this is more what I'm talking about.... but I grew up in New England and my dad's side of the family has some fairly strong British influences... so I guess that's why we celebrated it... besides, there it really the beginning of spring and flowers, etc... where as in the South (where I am now), it's already summer.

Today - I was at work... tonight I'm going to bed early to catch up on some much-needed sleep.

It's not really a special day in the UK anymore. The first Monday of May is always a public holiday (may day)... so i'll be quite happy to have a family day on the 7th. biggrin There'll be nothing special happening though.

I would simply go to the protests but I'm not really into hypocrisy. Yeah, you in the nike's smashing the window of Niketown. Yeah, you are the real loser. Plus, I'm not into pepper spray its a bit spicy for my taste.

What do I do? Nothing really-other than avoiding protests by some certain thugs who masquerade among the real protesters.
