Jean Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Futura, Peter Halley, Clemente... I love all that lot, mainly 80's New York City scene.

More recent painters would include Chris Ofili, Gary Hume, Jenny Saville among others.

One of my very favourite artists is John Atkinson Grimshaw. He was an English victorian painter who specialized in moonlight, stark bare trees, haunting street scenes, harbours & countryside etc. Don't know why I love his art so much, but I see myself standing in his paintings, seeing what he saw, smelling the cold damp autumnal & winter air like he must have done. His work stirs up much emotion for me. I love the atmosphere he creates especially with moonlight on water. I'm sure he's not everyone's cup of tea, but I think he saw beauty in the same way I do.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Sort of a boring and predictable list, actually. I haven't really been looking into new names in ages. I enjoy the abstract works of my friends (real life / internet friends).

A few years ago, I hired this guy who saved me a shitload of cash by flawlessly "feathering" a small area, rather than repainting a whole wall that spanned the upstairs and downstairs of my apartment. He's my favorite painter! bow
