ill barf lol EWWW! I had one of those about, jeez, it must have been at least 8 years ago. They were "testing" that sandwich here in the DC area. I bought one, and had to throw it out after the first bite. I couldn't stomach the artificial "ribs." What the hell did they make the boney ribs out of? They were not real rib bones. confused

There's a great Mexican sandwich place in my building, Manny's Tortas, and the veggie torta is pretty awesome. Crusty bread, beans, tomato, onion, sauteed mushrooms, avocado, cheese and chipotle mayo. YUM.

And there's a vietnamese deli that makes great vegetarian Banh Mi near me. I get the mock duck and the other veggies and herbs and bread are allllll perfect. Yum.

lol

There's no "bones" in a McRib...it's processed meat SHAPED to look like a mini slab of ribs. nuts

I'm not crazy about them, but apparently everytime McDonald's brings them back, sales go thru the ROOF!!!

It's the same thing as THIS;

shrug

A few years back, Burger King offered "real ribs" here (also on a trial basis). I even photowhored my lunch on here when I bought them.

shrug Tasted "ok"...mostly bone, not alot of meat.

There's a (somewhat seedy & therefore authentic) Mexican restaurant nearby that I took my buddy to (he's whatever you call people of "Mexican" descent who've been here since California was in Mexico).

ANYWAY...I finally had an authentic torta.

Steak, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo. drool

If they'd only used better bread, it would be on my top-10 list.

I think the words butty and breadcake are yorkshire/northern english...

it's got that same addictive hint of 'sweaty armpit that makes you want to go back for more' as a McRib i'm guessing... it tastes much better after copious amounts of alcohol

I don't like Subway... they're bread is always "damp". confused

A Quizno's opened up right down the street from it, and didn't stay open a year...

Unfortunately Quizno's is more expensive...but still, their sandwiches are 10x better than Subway.

There's this shop in White Plains, NY called Melt. I've had a few of their sandwiches but the best one was their aged beef top round done in their bbq style, which is with gorgonzola, tomatoes, bacon, and their bbq sauce drool I also liked their roasted turkey breast in their mango style - mango salsa, cilantro, red onion, and jalapenos thumbs up!

I've had mock duck in Minneapolis before at a friend's house, it was good as hell faint What do they normally make it out of, is it like Seitan strips?

Has anyone had a really, really good Cuban sandwich???

ham, roast pork, Swiss cheese, pickles, mustard and Cuban bread foodnow

I'm dying to have a REALLY good one.

The next time I go to Miami, it'll be my mission to find one.

Depending on where you're hanging out, you can pretty much find them at any Cuban cafeteria, especially in Hialeah (on the north side of town). If you're hanging out in Miami Beach, the same is also true of any mom& pop bodega/cafeteria north of 22nd street on Collins Ave, otherwise the oldest, most famous and dependable placed to get your medianoche on is at the historic Puerto Sagua on 7th & Collins, David's Cafe on 10th & Collins, or David's Cafe II on 16th & Meridian foodnow

If you can get canned chipotle peppers in adobo there, just puree up a bit and add the mayo. A little goes a long way. I'm sure there are other spices in the mayo I get, but that would get it close with the smoky peppery goodness. If not, adding whatever kinda spiciness will help.

And yeah, mock duck is basically seitan. I think they use funny molds so it looks like duck skin on one side. And the seasoning is always a little zingier than the seitan I buy in stores, but it's all pressed wheat gluten.
