I posted this in the Shuggie Otis thread, but here it is. My cousin just had a baby girl-the problem is two fold-one, my cousin almost died giving birth and two, her mother in law wants a paternity test-reason being, the baby was born "too light."

My cousin is like most of my family-very fair-she has green eyes and sandy blonde hair-her husband is brown skinned, as is most of his family. The mother in law says there is no way the baby should be that light and she is saying the baby isn't his. Drama.

You know what they say Momma's baby, Daddy's maybe but yeah it's sad, but she should just take the test so she can tell Mom's to walk into traffic

If the mother in law is willing to pay for it, why not just do it?

The monster in law isn't willing to pay and my cousin refuses to do any such thing.

A paternity test for my son? Sure, if you're paying, why not? Actually, I could use it to continue going after his deadbeat father.

I usually don't like fiddling around and thinking about other people's private lives, and therefore I'd suggest your cousin to tell her mother-in-law to not concern herself with something that's none of her business. If her husband believes it's his child, that's good enough. This "problem" should be solved between the two people concerned.

The mother in law is just going to have to deal with it. Hopefully she'll come around and be a good grandmother.

Son has to shut his mother down, if he doesn't then the MIL will make life a living hell for them. Some mom's stand by their principals no matter how wrong it may be. She sees it as protecting her son and she shouldn't be allowed to feel that way because son has a wife now and she has to learn to let him go.

Its up to your cousin's husband to fix this, he should pay... the fact that he allows any drama to continue is his fault.

Otherwise the mother of that baby will protect her child and not let that baby see its unwilling grandmother, and rightfully so.

MIL is a foolish woman. Seems like she just doesn't like her DIL. Well, that MIL does NOT and should NOT be allowed to see that baby until she gets a major attitude adjustment.

That baby will call her father " daddy", regardless of birthright. So MIL needs to acknowledge they are a family unit or she can be left out of the family.

Black babies can be born with pale skin and yellow hair; it happens all the time. I knew a pair of fraternal twins when I was growing up - the boy twin was James Evans-dark, and the girl was lighter than Tyra Banks! And they clearly had the same set of parents!

The biological father of my two daughters is black, and when we were separating he accused me of sleeping with his half-white older brother because the youngest daughter is so light. Never mind that the stupid brother was in prison when I got pregnant! GTFOOH.

Tell the mother in law that her son (the baby daddy) don't look like his father and you all want a paternity test on HIM....that might offend her just enough to show her how stupid she sounds.
