The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) - Journalist and asocial computer hacker investigate the murder of a young woman 40 years ago. star star star star

It was good. Very good. Everyone should have been speaking in Swedish though. I still like the original film more.

I was in Sweden two weeks ago, my first time. Everyone spoke to me in English, but I took it as I was able to understand Swedish. falloff

4/5.

What was your general impression of Sweden, and which cities did you go to? Were you here on vacation?

It was very cold, like Chicago cold when Chicago is at it's coldest. And I loved it! The driver gave me a tour of Stockholm on the way to my hotel (Berns Hotel - very lovely). The Abba guy, his studio. The not so pretty looking US Embassy, but most everything else was beautiful by design. Everyone was very welcoming. Water, water everywhere. It's so clean and someone joked to me that the water is clean enough to dip your hand in and take a sip. LOL. It looks it though. It's so very clean there...

It was a business trip and I was there maybe 24 hours. But I've been invited to visit during the summer. I think I will. smile

Beginners: 4/5.

Wonderful performances, especially by Christopher Plummer. Mike Mills' writing and directing was most impressive.

I'm glad you liked it. I guess we did have a cold snap about two weeks ago so you were unlucky that way. On the other hand it's nice when it's cold enough for the snow to stay on the ground.

As for the water everywhere that's one of the things I really like about this city. It's not called "the Venice of the north" for nothing. And yes, the water is very clean, as is everything else. Stockholm is very tidy and proper and orderly which is nice if you're used to filth and chaos but incredibly boring if you happen to live here permanently...

May I ask what line of work allows you to travel across the globe and stay at a nice hotel right downtown?

Welcome back this summer. Summers are much, much nicer here than winters.

I can find ambiguous endings in indie films a little tiring sometimes, but I think it worked perfectly here. It was certainly in keeping with the tone of the movie.

I also watched Meloncholia last week. I didn't really care for it, but I'm not really a von Trier type. Most of his movies pass me by without impact - even Breaking the Waves left me sort of nonplussed.

I have a very strong feeling I won't like this movie, but eventually I'll get around to it, but I think I'm going to fall into the minority on this one.

Just posted about this. I thought the dog deserved an Oscar nod. The subtitling was inspired.

I'm a cat person and I loved that dog. The whole movie was very clever. Things like Oliver imagining the quarter that was the size of his father's tumor being broken into change when the doctor said it had spread gave the movie lots of charm.

Try it. In spite of it being a Civil Rights era drama, surprisingly it delivers a few choice uppercuts to the chin, and might just put smile on your face when you least expect it. There will actually be a moment or two in the film that gives new meaning to the phrase "Revenge is a Dish Best Served Cold" cool

been watching alot of movies lately, so thought i'd chime in ocassionaly...

amazing movie. an amazing man who conducted himself like a true champion. i knew literally nothing of this story, but by the time he switched teams to williams (?)/renault, it was obvious what the outcome would be. there was an absolute sea-change in the man's demeanor that immediately let you know there was going to be a heartbreaking ending to his story.

very highly recommended.
