The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) - Journalist and asocial computer hacker investigate the murder of a young woman 40 years ago. star star star star

It was good. Very good. Everyone should have been speaking in Swedish though. I still like the original film more.

For obvious reasons, I haven't seen the original yet.

This is the last movie I saw in a theater and I was a bit disappointed. I'm a Fincher whore. I even love Benjamin Button. But the pace and structure of this one felt all kinds of wrong. I actually wanted it to be over when the mystery was solved. I was surprised it went on for another half an hour after that. If felt too long and I'm a HUGE proponent of long movies. The longer the better if they're holding my interest. I noticed very few memorable camera setups, too. Something you usually get in spades in a Fincher film. And yeah, what was with all the different accents?

Also, I barely noticed the Reznor/Ross score, which is probably why it wasn't nominated. Their score for The Social Network was mixed so loud it became part of the film. Their work on TGWTDT (which I love, I've listened to it a lot), was more like audio wallpaper, blending into the background.

6 out of 10 because it's a solid movie, but I felt let down by the finished product

I like the full movie. Maybe a 7 out of 10. I'd see it again. I thought the pace was good. I agree that the structure for a good part was done differently then main stream movies-but I liked it. It fit the computer hackers vibe and world (the so-called seediness).

Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (2011) - The final(?) chapter in the 1994 trial of the West Memphis Three. star star star star 1/2

What a great trilogy of films with plot twists that rival any scripted drama.

I just watched this on HBO a couple nights ago. I think this is one is the best of the three because it tells the entire story. I've always found them very difficult to watch, though, and this one was no different. 8 out of 10 - people should see this so they can make up their own mind (or try to), but they should know there are extremely ugly images contained within.

I thought part 2 was the most entertaining with all the theatrics from the one stepdad. I almost fell out of my chair when in part 3 he brought out the comparison chart about the other stepdad. falloff In all seriousness though it was shocking watching the teens age almost 20 years in prison over the course of around half a day which was the timespan in which I watched all three documentaries.

They blame game that's gone on through the years is definitely one of the most intriguing parts of the story. Very rarely have I seen so many, uhh, "interesting characters" lol involved in a documentary of this type. Usually I'll find myself drawn to one side or the other, or a particular point of view will take hold as "the truth" in my mind. I'm still not sure those boys/men are innocent, but I don't believe for one second that they received a fair trial or were allowed due process, and that's all that matters. However, I don't necessarily agree with them (the documentarians) trying to put the blame on other people where the evidence couldn't prove guilt in a court of law, either.

Like I said, I think people should definitely make an effort to at least see this one. All three might be too much for a lot of people at this point.

I wanted to love it, and that might be part of the problem. I was expecting something that would really grab hold of me and leave me feeling something at the end. There were moments when that started happening, but they were fleeting.

I'm still not sure it needed to be 2 1/2 hours long, either.

Finally got to...

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy 8 out of 10

I loved it, but I would be hard pressed to recommend it to very many people that I know. It's just not the kind of film that everyone will love. There's too much "what's going on?" for the average movie-goer. The only negative for me is that, while I'm glad Gary Oldman was finally nominated, I think he's done much better work. I actually found this performance a little boring. Still, incredible cast and a rewarding watch if you can stick with it to the end.

Warrior 7 out of 10

Movies that are as cliched as this one have no right being this good. I think Hardy was actually a little over the top, which played better in Bronson. But on the whole, even though you could see EXACTLY what was going to happen from the start, I really enjoyed this one.

Edit: Because syntax matters!

Fire Walk With Me. I'm just getting into the whole Twin Peaks thing. Leyland doesn't sing or dance, so it was a bit disappointing obviously. Laura Palmer wasn't as heavy as I thought she might have been, vacuous and doomed as opposed to a hellraising minx which is what I expected. Fucked by every male she knew, both figuritvely and literally, she knew there were two hopes - Bob and none. The white knight syndrome was bubbling out the pores of every decent man around her - but she could only perceive it as weakness. A foreign shape to be manipulated. All she knew was horror. Anything else must seem alien to victims of paedophiles. Or parasitic demons from the Red Room. No trust or faith in anyone or anything - robbed skinless by abuse. All sugar artificial. Everything built of black. Laura just couldn't see beyond herself and her perceptions. She knew no-one could save her. Death was her only shot at peace. Good to see her go to heaven at the end, despite there being none. If anyone deserves a heaven, it was Laura Palmer and everyone haunting their flesh and painting on a face every day like her.

One of my favorite movies ever.

Change it one more time..

The Kids are All Right
3.5/5
I liked the pace of this, no fluffing around straight into the story.
I thought the 2 kids in it were far too nice lol that was probably a bit of a point though. Also when Paul gives the breakup speech to his staff member fuck buddy he is way too eloquent - like it was written by a woman, which it was.

Andy Serkis carries the movie, fueled by a really good script.

I prefer the original more too, but I like this actress in the role better.. She's less hot, and more vulnerable looking.

The only kids I ever met nice like that are my dads cousins kids, also a boy and girl of similar difference in age where the girl is eldest. I wonder if that's why? The eldest is sensible and loves her brother and is very protective of him. Last year the boys best friend committed suicide and his sister flew home from abroad to be there for him.

Maybe it's a Chicago thing, because I've never seen black folks do that in Tampa.

Here in Thailand, anytime there's a seen with snow though, I always here a few Thais whispering, "Ooi,... now.." (Now in Thai means "very cold"). lol

I tempted to watch the black folks in the audience now. lol
