I was waiting on your review of this.
I enjoyed this one and my husband in an alternate reality Michael Fassbender is in it. But I think it's been slightly overhyped. I'd give it 1/2 (out of five) Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
μηδὲν ὅλως σὺ λυποῦ πρὸς ὀλίγον ἐστὶ τὸ ζῆν τὸ τέλος ὁ χρόνος ἀπαιτεῖ.”

Perhaps I gave it 1/2 star too many, but I did enjoy it much more than other 'overhyped' movies like Melancholia and The Descendants.

Seriously funny. And sort of motivational. I saw myself in Annie's role.

Paradise Lost 3: Purgatory (2011) - The final(?) chapter in the 1994 trial of the West Memphis Three. 1/2
What a great trilogy of films with plot twists that rival any scripted drama.

xtremely close incredibly loud ..
Overall pretty worthwhile.Could of been a waterfall of tears movie but it wasnt exactly that. The boy in the movie is my son almost w/out the math genius characteristics so it struck a nerve, I was having a hard time w some of it.9/11 movies bring on emotions as it is but this kind of stayed off it yet touched on it.I get emotional when i see those images so ya ithad moments, A scene in the movie could of been really bad but it didnt whew (the phone messages omg) nice seeing max von sydow again i dont think ive seen him since exorcist.

The Grey: Didn't find it terribly profound, but I like the stoic fight for lifefight to the death ethic that underlies it.
I give it *** out of **** stars. Change it one more time..

Really? I thought it was overrated. Didn't do much for me. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I was thoroughly disappointed. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah I thought it sucked, but mostly I was just mad because I payed so much to see it in the theater. If I got it at Redbox or on Netflix just to waste an hour and a half I wouldn't have cared. Change it one more time..

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) - Journalist and asocial computer hacker investigate the murder of a young woman 40 years ago.
It was good. Very good. Everyone should have been speaking in Swedish though. I still like the original film more.

I agree. But it's one of the bleakest films I've ever seen. I have to be prepared mentally before watching it again.

Fire Walk With Me. I'm just getting into the whole Twin Peaks thing. Leyland doesn't sing or dance, so it was a bit disappointing obviously. Laura Palmer wasn't as heavy as I thought she might have been, vacuous and doomed as opposed to a hellraising minx which is what I expected. Fucked by every male she knew, both figuritvely and literally, she knew there were two hopes - Bob and none. The white knight syndrome was bubbling out the pores of every decent man around her - but she could only perceive it as weakness. A foreign shape to be manipulated. All she knew was horror. Anything else must seem alien to victims of paedophiles. Or parasitic demons from the Red Room. No trust or faith in anyone or anything - robbed skinless by abuse. All sugar artificial. Everything built of black. Laura just couldn't see beyond herself and her perceptions. She knew no-one could save her. Death was her only shot at peace. Good to see her go to heaven at the end, despite there being none. If anyone deserves a heaven, it was Laura Palmer and everyone haunting their flesh and painting on a face every day like her.

Actually, he was pretty naked at the beginning... wasn't he?
Anyway, I was more interested in seeing Carey Mulligan naked, and that wasn't disappointing. Her figure actually matched one of my ex's EXACTLY. Little belly and everything.
I didn't like this, though. It felt empty and pointless to me. Well-made, but pretty emotionless, even when it was supposed to be emotional. 4 our of 10.

Yep. I liked it, too. Not exactly what I was expecting, but in a good way. It was smaller and warmer than I was expecting for some reason. Especially with all the talk of what a good job Clooney did. I'll match your 7.5 out of 10.

I finally got around to seeing "Bridesmaids" the other night.
I liked it.
1/2 of 5 I'm firmly planted in denial

Hate. Over-hyped tripe. It does often look stunning, but everything else about it felt flat. If it wasn't Scorcese people would be tearing this movie apart.

I just watched this on HBO a couple nights ago. I think this is one is the best of the three because it tells the entire story. I've always found them very difficult to watch, though, and this one was no different. 8 out of 10 - people should see this so they can make up their own mind (or try to), but they should know there are extremely ugly images contained within.

Again, best film from 2011 for me.

For obvious reasons, I haven't seen the original yet.
This is the last movie I saw in a theater and I was a bit disappointed. I'm a Fincher whore. I even love Benjamin Button. But the pace and structure of this one felt all kinds of wrong. I actually wanted it to be over when the mystery was solved. I was surprised it went on for another half an hour after that. If felt too long and I'm a HUGE proponent of long movies. The longer the better if they're holding my interest. I noticed very few memorable camera setups, too. Something you usually get in spades in a Fincher film. And yeah, what was with all the different accents?
Also, I barely noticed the Reznor/Ross score, which is probably why it wasn't nominated. Their score for The Social Network was mixed so loud it became part of the film. Their work on TGWTDT (which I love, I've listened to it a lot), was more like audio wallpaper, blending into the background.
6 out of 10 because it's a solid movie, but I felt let down by the finished product

I have a screener - probably get to this sometime this week. I'm not terribly excited about the idea of it taking all the big awards, though. Hopefull watching it will change my mind in that regard.

It was like watching Requiem For A Dream for me, seeing someone slowly hit bottom, but this movie wasn't quite as bleak as that one. It was fun watching Fassbender's character go to the same clubs I go to. [Edited 1/31/12 14:57pm]
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well, yeah. That would obviously add to the enjoyment.
Requiem is one of my all-time favorites. Might even make my top ten. Shame didn't hit any of the same buttons for me.

I think it got better as it went along. I didn't like it at all at first. The kids were so annoying during the first 30 minutes or so.

Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey
I hate Elmo. And I mean that. I despise that little fucker. He ruined Sesame Street, imo. It's freakin' Elmo Street now, and that's just wrong.
However...
This is a GREAT documentary. I absolutely loved it. Can't recommend it highly enough. Really interesting story of how the guy with his hand in Elmo's ass became a puppeteer, started working with Jim Henson and eventually took over duties on that annoying little hugging fucker.
9 out of 10
