Broadway shows - who's a fan?

Anyone here a fan of Broadway shows?

(Actually, I mean the Theater by that, not specifically in New York City, but as a New Yorker I consider them "Broadway Shows" razz )

I'm 41 and the only shows I have seen are "Phantom Of The Opera", "Beauty And The Beast", and "Chicago".

The ex had wanted to go see "Wicked" but we never got around to it (ironic, no?). lol

I just saw a commercial on TV for "Seminar" starring Alan Rickman, and I'm thinking I should buy tickets and just go see a show. What's the use of living so close to NYC and not take in a show every now & then, right?

Any recommendations?

eek Spiderman the new one with all the drama concerning it's high budget and many accidents?

Is it worth the ticket price?

I'm a fan. But I'm definitely more of a fan of plays (or, theater - pronounced, thee-ah-tuh) than musicals. I don't really dig the big, loud, overly produced musicals. Although I can see why some people do, with the crazy spectacle and all. I'm just as comfortable seeing a small community theater production of a play as a huge touring company version.

I can appreciate musicals but not a huge fan of musicals. I tend to like musicals that make fun of the genre or themselves. (Like: Into the woods , Little Shop of Horrors, or the Frankenstein musical "Have I got a Girl for you" (A-delightful campy retelling of the bride of frankenstein. It even has the scene where Frankenstein meets the little girl who is not afraid of the " monster"-but in this situation the little girl has the persona of Bette Davis.)

I love plays though. Whether drama, comedy, or absurd theatre- it's all good to me.

99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I think the one I saw was the rewritten revised version. It was good! Very entertaining, not too complex. Ticket price probably too steep still.

Ive seen a lot of broadway shows. Actually my first show was on Broadway and it was Cats. Other than that Ive seen Les Miserable (5 times), Phantom (5 times), Mary Poppins (I hated it! The movie was much better but my friend that hasnt seen the movie loved it), Wicked, West Side Story, Promises, Promises (very sweet show), Lion King and I could go on..

Id def see a show with Alan Rickman. He's one of my fav actors.

Is Fela! still on Broadway cause that show sounds great. Ive also heard good things about How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.

I'd rather go to a concert, but I don't mind them.

I've seen "The Wiz" with Stephanie Mills (am I dating myself? giggle), "Kiss of the Spiderwoman", "King and I", and "Chicago".

I wanted to see "West Side Story", but never got around to it...

I'd like to see "Anything Goes".

You are so lucky to be in NY to see a Broadway show whenever you want. I'm jealous. I'm a fan of Broadway plays. I've seen "The Lion King", "Mama Mia", "The Full Monty", "Aida", "The Producers" and I think a couple more but I can't remember them right now.

And you are thinking if you should see a play with Alan Rickman in it? OF COURSE YOU SHOULD GO!!!! excited Shucks if I lived where you were I'd go with you. I love that man, he's a legend. nod

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

cool

Vaness Williams the actress from "Ugly Betty" of course...we won't mention that once-upon-a-time she was a pop star. We'll keep that age-revealing secret to ourselves.

2012 is the year of broadening my horizons.

Seriously, isn't Theater a part of being a well-cultured person? Like I said, at this age I've seen a total of 3 shows.

It's not like I'm heading to the Opera any time soon.

fishslap for good measure.

I love the theater...Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off Off-Broadway, all of it. Two shows I recently saw (and highly recommend you check out, PJ, the next time you're in town) are Venus in Fur and Sons of the Prophet. Both were excellent.

LOVE live theatre.

The touring company of B'way's LaCage revival is at Kennedy Center sometime soon (I've got the clipping up on my fridge). Hoping to catch that.

Haven't been to a Broadway show (on Broadway proper) since Wicked opened and Taboo!

I read that Kristen Chennoweth might play Tammy Faye in an upcoming musical. I'd LOVVVVVE to see that.
