Tyler Perry Highest-Paid Man In Showbiz Knowing the success of his "Madea" franchise alone, it's not too surprising that Tyler Perry tops Forbes’ “Entertainment’s High...aid Men” list this year. According to Forbes, Perry pulled in $130 million in 12 months, beginning in May 2010.
TV shows “Meet the Browns” and “House of Payne” are huge moneymakers, as are Perry’s wildly popular movies. The actor/producer/director/screenwriter will star in the upcoming film adaptation of James Patterson’s Alex Cross detective novels.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer earned his spot at No. 2 with some help from the fourth “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, which raked in $1 billion globally. This pushed Bruckheimer’s yearly haul to $113 million.
Steven Spielberg ranks third with $107 million in earnings this year. The famed director has two films going head-to-head this fall – “War Horse” and “The Adventures of Tin Tin.”
Music men Elton John, who took home $100 million, and “American Idol” guru Simon Cowell, with $90 million, round out the list’s Top 5.
Author James Patterson comes in at No. 6, having made $84 million this year thanks to his best-selling books.
Talk show host Phil McGraw (aka “Dr. Phil”) made $80 million from his TV empire, featuring shows like “The Doctors.” This earns him the No. 7 spot.
Leonardo DiCaprio is the lone actor on the list, thanks to big budget hits like “Inception” and “Shutter Island.” Leo made $77 million, putting him at No. 8.
The ninth highest-paid man in showbiz happens to be Howard Stern, with his lucrative satellite radio deal. Stern pulled in a salary of $76 million this year.
Despite his scandal, Tiger Woods makes the list. The world’s best-paid athlete comes in at No. 10 after earning $75 million.

His plays were GOOD. I never saw one of his movies.. I liked the plays I seen too much and I heard his movies sucked in comparison.
I guess I will check out his movies... just not interested. I am glad he achieved success. He worked hard to get there.

Not to knock Perry's success but how come Madea movies can rake in millions but when movies like The Great Debators, Miracle at St. Anna and Rosewood come out everybody stays home. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer.

Isn't Tyler Perry planning on doing a movie with one of James Patterson characters, Alex Cross? Match made in heaven? I'm actually kind of curious about how it will turn out, still don't see Tyler as Alex Cross, but who knows. After reading one of the more recent Cross books I think the character has played out now, I didn't enjoy it at all, maybe the movie will give it a boost.

He has been a pretty solid playwrighter and actor. His films have been hit or miss...good ones, bad ones. The plays definitley stick out more than anything. There is a feel of realism in the plays more-so than the movies. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I thought I (and others) criticized his lack of support as a serious actor... many only pay attention to him because of his "safer" roles he plays as a mean momma on a mission. I don't think anyone here has said any bullshit about the man or his talent.

I tend to agree, even though I'd say it's more than just the money, it's about the access and prestige he now has access to. I guess we'll see within the next 10 years or so who he really is.

The man seems to have range IMO... I hope he is as celebrated in other new and challenging roles.
Morgan Freeman is getting old and he can't play all the fun manly black roles anymore.

Yeah, but now he's got power and status among his peers. He ain't scratching to reach the top he is the top. Now it's what he decides to do with the challenges that are in front of him or does he slack and settle. we'll see.

Technically Tyler Perry EARNED that much, which is not the same as getting PAID that much. He earned that much because he produces his own movies and, so far, they've been profitable. If he had produced a series of bombs he wouldn't even have been on the list.
And this is not hate! More power to him! In fact, maybe its even more impressive. But its definitely not the same as say, Leo DiCaprio, who was PAID $77 million to act.

That's amazing. This man came from literally nothing. Didn't he live out of his car for seven years? It's even better that he's black lol. A true 'rags to riches' story. Madea's Family Reunion was his absolute BEST movie, his other's have been pretty bad. "Daddy's Little Girls" and "Diary" were ok. The other ones..not so good. The plays are the bomb, however.
The most annoying line in his movies:
BYRANNNN!! BYRANNNN!! Just plain annoying.
