After we finally found a cab driver who'd heard of this place, we arrived at an ultra-exclusive boutique hotel of private villas directly on the beach around 3 am. Turns out this is where Stevie stayed. The only bad thing is that it was dark so I couldn't see all of the splendor but what I could see was splendid.

There was an open bar and delicious food including the best shrimp and lamb chops I've ever come across

We were chatting, drinking and taking pics with all of the band members. Here's my girl with one Stevie's back up singers.

And then after awhile they brought Stevie out to one of the covered palapas to chill, which he did until about 6 am. My friend got up the nerve to ask his asst if we could get a pic. I normally frown on this but other people were taking pics so we figured it would be okay. My friend took hers then it was my turn. I introduced myself, he put his arm around me, we took the pic, I thanked him and as I was walking away Stevie TOTALLY Ray Charles'd me.

Your friend is fine. By the way the backup singer is the always friendly and awesome guy Keith John son of Lil Willie John the Soul Singer. He took time for me to take a pic with me last year.

Finally around 615am we left the boutique hotel and rode back to the band's hotel on their bus. It was gonna be much easier to catch a cab back to our hotel from there. So we didn't get back to ours until 730am. Oooooweeee, it was a long night but definitely unforgettable.

Our friend invited us to come see Stevie at the Austin City Limits festival next week, so it looks like SCNDLS is headed back home.

I think it is indeed Judith Hill that was supposed to do the backup for MJ as well. I wouldn't be suprised if it is her. Michael and Stevie used alot of the ssame bandmembers....Michael would always be checking Stevie's band to see who he could steal....

Kailand was NOT happy about going out there. He kinda tossed that cake up on the equipment we were sitting on as soon as he got off stage. I think he was tired cuz it was late. But he pulled it together for his drum solo tho.

And you're right about them poaching each other's people. Ryan the sax player told me he got the gig with Stevie 5 years ago when Stevie reached out to Mike Phillips who was unavailable due to playing with Prince. Mike suggested Ryan in his place. Ryan is another sweet guy. Everyone was soooo damn nice.

Awww. Poor Kailand. And Stevie definitely handed out that DNA cuz Kailand got the drumming skills from his daddy.

Stevie has amazingly kind band members. We noticed that too. It just makes you feel super positive. And yeah seems Mike Phillips is someone Stevie definitely trust because when Stanley had another gig Mike suggested another drummer and Stevie went with it.

What a great thread! This all sounds so cool, enjoying all these exciting concerts, meeting all the great artists, even Stevie Wonder (!), staying in the best hotels and enjoying Curacao. WOW.

It reminds me of NSJF in Rotterdam, and the sheer happines I felt for three days in a row!

However, I'm not jealous

Sounds like a plan! I'm definitely going back next year for the festival and may even switch my 40th bday party from Vegas to Curacao. The people and the resort were beautiful!
