Isn't "LA Confidential" a much more old fashioned formal period piece with a linear police murder mystery plot? Completely different kind of film? It's not strictly a 'period' piece either, although it could wear the label. It just takes place in that period.

Being out of sequence is a nice trick that works but it's not enough to make it all that.

But LA confidential is a period piece with costumes, props, hairstyles, it even has historical cultural details presented just for novelty. It's more akin to "Chinatown." It's traditional film noir. You can describe the one story and the point of each scene in LA Confidential because it's a normal storyline that is a traditional mystery thriller divided into a three act structure.

Pulp fiction is not a period piece, in fact it has hints from all different eras and genres of film kind of mixed up in the present. It also doesn't have a traditional story with a traditional purpose like a mystery thriller. There's nothing to solve in Pulp Fiction, you can't actually map out a traditional plot, there's not a main character or conflict with a beginning and end. I think Pulp fiction is a lot more like Kill Bill than LA Confidential, but even Kill Bill has one central storyline that has a point.

Chinatown is another excellent movie. All three movies revel in seamier sides of L.A.

'L.A. Confidential' and 'Pulp Fiction' have characters have life changing epiphanies.

Eye watch this at least once a week and listen 2 the soundtrack.......Great movie!

Pulp Fiction is one of the best movies ever. Remember a few years back when Entertainment Weekly did a poll for the best movie of the last 25 years and the voters were actors, directors, and critics? Pulp Fiction was number one on that list.

Like a poster said before, it was one of the first mainstream movies to place the scenes in a non-linear fashion. But that is not the half of it. The dialogue is very witty and funny, almost every scene is quotable. There are few different stories going on in the movie, and they are mostly about traditional bad-guys, who you end up loving through the whole movie, with the exception of the really bad guys (Zed and clan), who you love seeing getting their just deserves.

This is a movie that I personally, along with alot of my friends, can start at any point of the movie and watch 5 minutes for fun, or the whole thing. But it is so good, no matter where you start it you are bound to finish it.

I have alot of favorite scenes, but the two that come to mind are: "GD! That is one f'n good milkshake!" , and when the drug dealer is asking Vincent (John Travolta) to go on a double date with the drug dealer, his wife, and his wifes friend as Vincent's date. Then Vincent says, "is she the one with all the shit in her face?", referring to one of the women he seen in the drug dealers house with numerous piercings. Then the drug dealer says, "No, thats Trudy. That's my wife."

Lol. Just had to put my two cents in for one of my favorite movies.
