how old is your machine? not under warranty any more? My macpro has been in the shop twice. They told me a third time and it would be declared a lemon and a new one hastily sent to me.
gahhhh... a mac pro
*is jealous*
Mine is 5 years old. Still works pretty good considering age, the fact that it was a low end imac- no extras, how I have probably abused it and the fact no one has worked on it but me.
i'd definitely buy another one... but probably just a mini. I just need the basics. I actually thought about buying an unused mac pro motherboard that was a few years old (because i don't think you can get access for newer boards until after the machines they are in have been on the market a while) and building one in a generic case. That would be the only way i could afford one.
I have to have a serious machine, I do all my work on it, but I maintain that computers break your heart, every time
i'm using firefox 8 nightly and it's pretty good. no crashes or problems. aurora was pretty solid too
unique, could a layperson use the newer builds? I don't want to do anything other than use the browser.
yeah. it doesn't look any different or act any different really to v5. it just might be more buggy and the main issue some might have is add ons might work, but if you don't use add ons it's fine. when it installs it copies your history and settings but you can still revert to your old stable version. it's not like IE where you upgrade and can't turn back and then find nothing works properly
all I know is there are probably a hell of a lot of mac users using firefox, especially older version of mac os that google chrome doesn't support.
safari is just such a cranky bastard... no, no... it's more like a little brat. Yeah, a brat.
It's like "go here"
NNNNYO... I DON'T WANNA
*pitches fit/holds breath/closes*
... and even more so on crap I really want to look at.
What OP are you using? Because I'm on Windows 7 and I found it almost as fast as Chrome. Which totally surprised me because I was expecting it to drag like a snail.

here's what itunes did and i have no idea how it did it because I was CLEARLY not paying attention, but it seems it would have told me it was doing this before kt did it but NOPE!
I want to listen to my stuff so the music that is in my music folder, I put on Itunes and have myself a nice littel playlist. lo and behold, my music is no longer in my music folder. I haven't quite gotten exactly how my mac decides to extract something entirely rather than copy it without asking me but I am no stranger to this phenomenon.
...and then guess what happened.
Yep, Itunes walks out the fucking door with my music and is like "Itunes isn't taking any of your calls right now"...ok, maybe it said something else but it essentially translated to a great big FUCK YOU.
I love my mac, it's a good machine but I have learned to keep things things simple with this freaking mac. Plug and play almost anything is really great but don't buy into all this mac software. Microsoft does it a different way... apple does it too. they make crap complicated to squeeze out more profits after the sale. I haven't spent money on apple anything since 06 but still use their product and they'd probably like to get a dime from me but I am learning to do without bells and whistles and trying to keep things very simple when it comes to computing. Old fashioned as it may be for example, if i don't have a CD in my hand, i don't pay for the music. Same thing with programs and i try to have and use only the ones i really need. i spend too much time on the computer anyway but it's for goofing off mostly... and watching free video because i refuse to pay for cable.

Itunes does shit like that. It'll automatically sync if you're not careful and just start deleting shit whenever it feels like it.
You don't need Itunes in order to use your iPod. I haven't had it installed on any of my comps in over a year, I use Winamp instead. Although right now I don't really use my iPod at all, I'm too busy over at Spotify .

The reason why Firefox was so good before Chrome existed, was because Google's engineers were some of the biggest contributors to the open source development of Firefox. As soon as they launched Chrome, Firefox began to lag behind.
I'm using Chrome 14 with dozens of extensions and it's fast as fuck.
I think Firefox has kinda jumped the shark at this point honestly. The just can't seem to get it together.
I only ever use it now when I need to access certain sites that apparently don't like Google too much.
Yes, I know this post is pretty much useless and doesn't answer the question.
I strongly believe that Firefox 3.89 was Mozilla's final stable masterpiece to date. But I think Mozliia's biggest screw-up was releasing Firefox 4 too soon without being absolute sure it was 100% stable ahead of time.
On my computer I have Firefox & Chromium (open source browser that Google's Chrome is based upon). The main reason why I use Firefox 5 more often is because I'm convince the add-ons/extensions are more superior than Chromium in terms of safer web browsing. To be very fair, Chromium is a far better browser for watching videos & playing video games. Speed-wise, Chromium is within two steps faster than Firefox.
My current OS is LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition). Is there a way to upgrade from Firefox 5 right at this moment, or is it only problem for Window-users?

unfortunately chrome makes you type all in bold which is fucking annoying and makes you look like a retard who can't use a computer
Apparently Firefox Aurora and Nightly are versions 7 and 8 as version 6 is just being produced. And according to this video, Nightly's BETA version is faster than all the browsers right now:

THAT^ doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the typing text is too damn small to begin with! But at least I can go to View and zoom-in a bit.
Try it for a test. It's cool. Until Firefox itself upgrades, I'm just gonna leave it alone but it is nice.
I tried it, it sucks ass! At least it did for me, it loads videos slow as hell and I had to download other stuff just to get some things to show up... .

I have linux mint on one notebook and I can't decided whether I'm going with Firefox or Chromium. But I've never been all that excited by Firefox.
They seem to work about the same on my Debian based system. I've started to use Chromium more just because it's the first on the application menu, hah. The menus seem to be a bit faster on it (maybe it doesn't rely as much on GTK, I don't know). Firefox (or Iceweasel) on Linux just has those handy filedownloading options if you need them (downloading videos from Youtube etc.).

Yuck. I knew it probably wouldn't be good for you lol
