I just quit it today because I couldn't deal with the constant crashing (version 5).

I have Windows 7 (missing XP).

I've been on Rockmelt all day with no issues.

It really has turned shitty. I went on it today and was surprised how much it drags compared to Opera and Chrome. But yeah Opera definitely is faster. And yeah you're not the only one who remembered when Firefox was the shit. 2006 was a really good year. smile

I know. I very seldom use Firefox for actual surfing now; I usually turn it on only to go to Tinychat.

FF still has everyone beat when it comes to browser designs though, and add-ons and the ease of installing said add-ons. At this point I think those are the only things still keeping FF in the race; once Chrome becomes more user-friendly in that respect, it's Game Over.

*points to Opera*

I'm watching videos about how Rockmelt is used. Looks like it's based off what Opera and Chrome is built on, mainly Chrome-like stuff. You got me wanting to check it out...

I've been busting my ass for at least 30 minutes trying to export my password data from Chrome to Safari and I still haven't figured it out. mad

I was actually cool with Safari until like three months ago. For some reason it didn't even wanna go to where I wanted to go, just stucked on loading and I had to uninstall everything that was installed/downloaded that made Safari. If you're using XP and a desktop I wouldn't recommend Safari at all.

No, now I'm on a laptop and using Windows 7. It runs fine, speedy as hell. I just can't figure out how to get all my passwords from Chrome, into it. And I need to because I don't even remember most of them anymore.

maybe apple ought to buy out firefox since building a reliable browser is so far down on their list of priorities.

all I know is there are probably a hell of a lot of mac users using firefox, especially older version of mac os that google chrome doesn't support.

safari is just such a cranky bastard... no, no... it's more like a little brat. Yeah, a brat.

It's like "go here"

first thing i did on my hackintosh was put firefox on. safari is fucking horrible. it's even more horrible than itunes which is just a fucking nightmare. at least itunes has some practicle use (albeit it would be much preferred if we could drag and drop and not have to ever load it up, nevermind have to update it and fuck about installing it and then fucking about removing all the shit it tries to force your computer to autorun at boot)

and on the mac you get the shit like itunes won't work cuz safari is out of date, what the fuck? and then you can't update safari or itunes cuz you don't have the latest version of OSX which you have to pay for, so you can't get your fucking brand new apple branded legally bought ipod to work at all until you've upgraded all that. yet on the pc you don't get that shit

and exactly how do apple have more money than the american government with all that shit?

Ahhh... fucking itunes.

here's what itunes did and i have no idea how it did it because I was CLEARLY not paying attention, but it seems it would have told me it was doing this before kt did it but NOPE!

I want to listen to my stuff so the music that is in my music folder, I put on Itunes and have myself a nice littel playlist. lo and behold, my music is no longer in my music folder. I haven't quite gotten exactly how my mac decides to extract something entirely rather than copy it without asking me but I am no stranger to this phenomenon.

...and then guess what happened.

Yep, Itunes walks out the fucking door with my music and is like "Itunes isn't taking any of your calls right now"...ok, maybe it said something else but it essentially translated to a great big FUCK YOU.

I love my mac, it's a good machine but I have learned to keep things things simple with this freaking mac. Plug and play almost anything is really great but don't buy into all this mac software. Microsoft does it a different way... apple does it too. they make crap complicated to squeeze out more profits after the sale. I haven't spent money on apple anything since 06 but still use their product and they'd probably like to get a dime from me but I am learning to do without bells and whistles and trying to keep things very simple when it comes to computing. Old fashioned as it may be for example, if i don't have a CD in my hand, i don't pay for the music. Same thing with programs and i try to have and use only the ones i really need. i spend too much time on the computer anyway but it's for goofing off mostly... and watching free video because i refuse to pay for cable.

you can search for your missing things, find out where they went, and copy them back to where you expect to find them

you can search for your missing things, find out where they went, and copy them back to where you expect to find them

not if you weren't paying attention to the fact they were missing from their original spot until after they are no longer anywhere at all. Gone, entirely. Nowhere on the hard drive.

if you put them into iTunes, iTunes stores them somewhere. You can choose where that is. But if you don't remember or never set the drive/folder yourself, search.

Sounds very strange that they are completely missing now hmmm

no, you see they were first on my hd in my music folder. i wanted to make a playlist and thought itunes was copying them but they completely extracted them from my music folder and put them in another folder... and i had no idea. then itunes decides to quit working entirely and what it had stored on playlists literally disappeared when it crapped out.

yeah... itunes is a nightmare. that is the first i've heard that one but itunes does all sorts of evil crap. i don't know how. Just when you think it's a crappy program, it really seemslike it's trying really hard to fuck you over. it's that bad. I don't get it.

Hmm... I don't recall. That was 06.

Target folder, target folder... I have no idea. it was already on the mac but I do recall going through the programs when i first started it... but whatever it was that happened then, that was it... because I never re-install and it was just too long ago.

yeah, by now it definitely is because some other things have happened as well. file fault was on and it did something or another with an entire user account. i had to make a new admin and all sorts of stuff... but that might have been from neglect from maintaining it better. That just happened not too long ago and this thing is getting a little dated so i didn't go completely nuts about it. i just made a new account and left everything as it is and hope it just magically starts working again one day so i can get a few pics off of it but I definitely don't want to try to figure it out... at least not until i have my new floor put in. I'll be bald from tearing my hair out.

I wish I had bought a mini actually. I spent too much money on an intergrated one because I have dead pixels on my screen too and the LCDs are a lot to repair... but even with *those* problems it's still hard to complain about it. File vault and the dead pixel curse. I need to read up on mac curses because i'm sure another one is right around the corner.

I have done a little independant tech work and tried to learn some more about software, which is the hardest part to me... I'd rather do repairs. software and programming got very tedious to me very very fast. lol I think i'm too impatient for it for it which is why I bought a mac in the first place.

Computer maintainence and malware prevention and removal.... HAAATE it.

That's why i love my mac.... cause it still lets me go online even though it's probably rooted.lol

Sometimes things like that can come in handy though... like being keylogged. I get to feeling like I can rant to the world when i'm pissed off without hitting submit and then I don't have to take the time to go delete it after I've calmed down. Some call that narcissicm, some call it the power of positive thinking. I call that pure genius... or maybe it's pure laziness. Eh, same thing.

gahhhh... a mac pro

*is jealous*

Mine is 5 years old. Still works pretty good considering age, the fact that it was a low end imac- no extras, how I have probably abused it and the fact no one has worked on it but me.eek

i'd definitely buy another one... but probably just a mini. I just need the basics. I actually thought about buying an unused mac pro motherboard that was a few years old (because i don't think you can get access for newer boards until after the machines they are in have been on the market a while) and building one in a generic case. That would be the only way i could afford one.
