The Cost of Shaving

What in the name of Billy Gibbons is up with the price of razor blades?

I just paid $20 for some replacements for a Gillette Sensor (not one of the more expensive razors). It came with 10 blades.

Some of the others are twice as much!

pissed We don't even like to shave! This is an outrage!!!

8 razors $25!!

Now I know how they can afford those space age shaving commercials. Every adult (minus hippies) is wasting a small fortune on these fuckers

No kidding! I'm thinking of going electric. The price of blades is ridiculous.

And you know what I found? The generic, or grocery store brands that are made to fit your razor are cheap but HORRIBLE. Don't try Kroger-brand razors unless you like to bleed.

I have an electric (Norelco, I think) but it always misses some random whiskers. So I go over and over the same spot, and some whiskers get cut so short I end up with ingrown hairs.

Maybe a higher end one would be better, but my face always feels better with non-electric

I guess there is one of these too. Called a Safety Razor. I think the blades are cheap, but I have no idea about the shave

I bought a cheap safety razor. There are many different types of blades you can buy, but they are all cheaper than Gillette catridge razors. If you learn how to use a safety razor, it can give you a far better shave than a catridge razor. The only problem is, even if you are good, the time per shave can get long. You have to make multiple "passes" to whittle down the hair. Some mornings I don't have time for all that and just reach for a regular catridge razor.

Yeah, the prices are going up. If I shaved the dome every day, I'd be in trouble.

To make matters worse, the lubrication strip on Mach 3 Turbo (my brand for the past few years) doesn't last nearly as long as it used to. So, they're ensuring we have to buy them more frequently.

Did you buy it online? I am wondering where I could pick one up.

Tremolina

I hate to shave every day

But I hate having a beard too because it itches like hell

So I usually go with a beard of a few days old and then shave it off

Luckily most people find that to suit me well

Gillette are fucking asholes with their ridiculous prices.

But they do have the best blades.

I could never go electric. Hate it, rips out my hair and leaves me with rashes on my face.

Blades forever.

I don't understand why razor blades keep getting more & more complex....other than to keep the prices high of course!

disbelief

I really liked my Gillette Mach 2, ...everything that's come out afterwards has been overkill.

I know, we are going to have blades for each whisker at this rate.

I don't upgrade to any other bs either. Two blades is enough nod

I switched to a double edged safety razor months ago and will never go back to sensors or fusions ever again.

Not only is it way cheaper (one blade costs about 10 cents), but it's a closer, less irrating, all around BETTER shave.

nod

using the right creams and such is key also. All that chemical goop is just nastay. barf

I use a wool fat soap along with a quality cream, whipped into a thick lather with a quality brush and shave with the grain, across the grain and then against the grain. Follow with an astringent and aftershave. Smooth as a baby's ass without any pain at all.

My point is that a razor (or blades) is a drop in the bucket for women.

I just saw a 12-pack of disposable razors for $18 bucks on Amazon. For me, that'd last more than a year. A year's supply of tampons costs three times that much (at least).

These cryogenically tempered razor cartridges get great reviews from everyone who uses them. The life of the blades is increased quite a bit.

I bought a chromed gillette super speed. I really like the Persona Red blades. Feather's are nice too, but they're sharp as shit and I can't really do all the passes with them without feeling like I took off too much skin.

What do you use Shawn?

seriously, Andrew. Look into making the switch. It takes a little more time and attention, but the payoff is so much more rewarding. But once you get used to it, it really doesn't seem like much more work than what you're doing now.

Just a generic beginner's razor. I had some Merkur blades that I wasn't too impressed with so I tried some Feathers. I felt like I was shaving with a katana sword. I am probably going to upgrade the razor soon. I have heard good things about the super speed.

Give the Persona's a try, I really like them. Another thing I didn't like with the Feather is the glue dots. They totally gum up your razor, so F that.

I like the super speed, but it does feel skinny when using it, I see why the fat boy's are so popular. I've got my eyes on this rhodium plated one, but the price is ridiculous....I can't justify spending that much on a razor. disbelief
