I misspelled it
It's xeriscaping. Which is a form of landscaping using plants that are indigenous to the local region. The objective is to reduce your chemical load and watering needs as much as possible. Some folks who xeriscape never need to water their yard, though it gets rid of the grassy 'lawn' and replaces it with a garden that resembles a natural environment more---in the desert, it would be rocks and wild plants, etc. Some places have passed laws allowing xeriscaping regardless of HOA rules.
