I think it was "The Butcher". I'd already seen it before anyway.

It was boringggggggg, but I've seen worse.

It's a ten! It hit so hard culturally it's ridiculous. It completely works, every scene, and it is surreal! Come on, come on, what movie is more accomplished in so many dimensions? The Sound of Music probably. That movie is a titan warlord of musicals.

OK, you might convince me to raise my score to 9.8. I think my only complaint is the "We go together like rama lama ding dong..." ending which felt a little thin to me. Also the fact that Rizzo isn't really pregnant at the end kind of pissed me off. But you're right. It's pop bubblegum fantasy in the most successful classical Hollywood sense. It's perfect for what it is, and the art direction - colors, props, costumes, sets -- is absolutely glorious.

sexton, I can't believe those are the two scenes you object to! They are both some of the most orchestrated memorable scenes in the history of cinema. As a pre-teen, those two scenes rattled me like no other and I had no idea they were exagerrated from such a young perspective. I believed every moment of this film, and memorized its lessons.

[img:$uid]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/funkyfiddler/IMG_1947.jpg[/img:$uid]

Also, Rizzo is great, has depth, but TRAVOLTA wins hands down. smile

[img:$uid]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v412/funkyfiddler/IMG_1944.jpg[/img:$uid]

I do love how even the most minor characters are so quirky and perfectly etched. It was really fun seeing it with you, sexton.

I stand by my 'controversial' rating of Grease. lol Maybe if I had watched it periodically throughout the last thirty years instead of never, there wouldn't be the shock of it not being as perfect as I remembered. It may go back up to a 10/10 after repeated viewings where I get reacclimated to it, but for now it stays at 9/10.

pretty damn good. I liked it and the premise worked too. The violence was good too. Citizen cane? no...but for a predator, movie top notch.

It sucked ass, to be blunt. Which I hated because there were a lot of good actors in it and I wanted to like it. Fucking disappointment.

Teeth 7 out of 10 - taking into account what it is, so its a different scale than say, a period drama

OK, I said I would watch this, and I did. Let me say straight off that I expected it to be TERRIBLE. I expected it to be cliche, have horrible special effects and terrible acting. I was very unexpectedly surprised to find out that I was wrong about all of that.

Also, on the off chance that somebody else will actually watch this movie at some point, there is a lot I won't be talking about. It would just be way too spoilery.

The movie itself isn't very violent or gory for most of its running time. Only a couple of times, really, and by then, because its earned those scenes, they work really well. For me, the most disturbing scene was actually the opening of the movie (which it seems actually received some protests) because it involves very young children.

After that opening scene they do a FAR better job at building suspense than they should ever have been able to do. They achieved this partially through some pretty good acting (particularly the lead, who could be a Fanning sister) and partially through an abstinence parable storyline. The latter works really well in the context of the "horror" in this movie. Unfortunately, there's no where for it to go so it gets thrown out in order to get to the couple scenes of intense gore. I also thought the "bad guy" (and his story) who ends up "getting his" in the end was miscast and unebelievable (dude wasn't a very good actor, anyway).

The one other thing that struck me is how much of the movie was filmed during the daytime. I'd say probably 2/3 of it (at least) was in daylight, both on location and on sets. For me this often makes tension and horror much more affective than putting characters in "dark scary places" where things "go bump in the night".

All in all, if you like horror movies even a little bit I would definitely recommend it.

Lastly, in case you haven't figured it out, this movie is about a girl whose vagina has teeth. lol

The Change-Up - I will give it a 4 out of 5 as me and my sisters found it hilarious, although we do have a very juvenile sense of humour.

ABSOLUTELY one of the most pleasant surprises since "Election". This movie is really well put together. It should be up for best picture. Go see it. Such a nicely structured and written script. And I just got done with the entire series "Freaks and Geeks" which was great to compare to. This is similarly poignant and funny.

Love is the Devil (1998-UK), Starring Derek Jacobi and Daniel Craig (Of James Bond fame).

Based on the real life relationship between British painter Francis Bacon (1909-1992) and his partner George (c.1935 -1971) a semi criminal who breaks into Bacons house in 1964 and ends up becoming his lover until his susicide in 1971. Beautifuly done and some very dramatic acting. Setting and acting is perfect. A wee bit unrealistic about Bacon who is presented as a meticulous queen, when in real life he was a messy slob and tortured genius, here hes like the Stately Homo! 9/10

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Attack The Block 7.5 out of 10 - on the regular movie scale, not the horror movie scale lol

Ahhhh man! This movie wanted SO BADLY to be truly great. "Trust!" But it just misses. I guess this thread is supposed to be more about rating than reviewing, which is probably a good thing in regards to this movie. Because writing about its plot, even a little bit, would definitely spoil the magic. As would discussing my two big complaints, so for now, I won't. I will say that I HIGHLY recommend it, though. It was a great movie watching experience. And that you should be prepared for VERY thick accents. "Trust."
