3/5 I'd watch it again, but I wasn't as moved as I was by Young Victoria.

2.5/5 Ended so sad, but that was the most moving part to me, the rest I didn't really care, maybe somewhere in the future I'll watch it again.

The last movie I watched in its entirety was "Labyrinth" and on a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a four, because David Bowie had Tina Turner's wig on and that shit just didn't make any sense.

Tried to watch Super 8 last night and fell asleep.

Watched Super 8 today... and fell asleep.

Now, keep in mind, I don't sleep much.

Watched it again and made it all the way through, but was greatly underwhelmed. I get what they were going for and I mostly like how they got there. But some of the acting was too far past suspect for my tastes, and the silliness of the abundant plot holes/lazy, unbelievable story telling devices (all JJ Abrams trademarks at this point) were just too much. *spoiler!* The kids just conveniently running around doing whatever they want all the time, particularly when the army is trying to blow up their entire town. rolleyes *spoiler!* Those "battle" scenes in the middle, with them running around trying to find proof of the (ya know) and save the town, like that's a perfectly normal thing for teenagers to be doing, was just ridiculous. No kid would do that, no army unit would let them (they would have been seen), and once the shit started going down ANYBODY would have gone into self-preservation mode and run the other way. Plus, *spoiler!* the water tower going all magnetic from one cube, sucking up a bunch of metal, becoming a "spaceship" and flying off into the night sky actually made me laugh out loud (at it, not with it). Not the way I like to end a movie.

Plus, lens flares. disbelief

I'll still give it a 4, maybe a 5 out of 10 for strength of concept (one that I should have liked far more) and getting it done on a relatively small budget.

and was completely entertained and it had a great depth to it in terms of what the entire superhero cultural/psychological thing really is.

I say thumbs up! 10 out of 10 for me. It was like Taxi Driver on red bull, candy, and salvia, with a heart of gold in a pool of blood. Casting was hilarious too.

That's what I used to think. But watching it again for the first time in several years, I found some scenes a little embarrassing. I still love it though. I love lots of films that aren't perfect tens if that makes any sense.

I know I shouldn't be taking the movie so seriously--it's a musical after all--but the sleepover scene at Frenchy's house where Sandy gets nautious I found to be so exaggerated. The same where she meets Danny again for the first time at the bonfire and immediately runs away in tears. rolleyes However, I absolutely loved the look of glee on Rizzo's face during that scene in exposing to Sandy the real Danny Zuko. Stockard Channing was easily the best actor in the entire film.

It is a fantasy movie. They break into fantasy musical numbers, and fly away into the sky at the end.

It's a ten! It hit so hard culturally it's ridiculous. It completely works, every scene, and it is surreal! Come on, come on, what movie is more accomplished in so many dimensions? The Sound of Music probably. That movie is a titan warlord of musicals.

I'd give The Sound Of Music a 9/10 too. lol I mean, why is everyone in Austria speaking to each other in perfect English? That's not right at all. disbelief Other that that, it was excellent. razz
