I really found out that schools were not teaching it too much anymore when my little sister could not read a letter my mother gave her that was in beautiful cursive..i was....SHOCKED to actually hear her say this....she is 13 now....

So if I want to write something that I don't want kids to read, I can just write in script? Awesome! Much easier than looking for invisible ink. razz

When did people stop writing in cursive? I see it all the time especially at the bank. The real question is should writing be taught period? All this texting and bbming and princebonics and email; its a wonder people know how to write at all.

I've never understood the fascination with texting. They're already punching buttons on a phone so just dial the damn number and talk to the person.

I love texting. I hate talking on the phone. I rarely answer my cell when it rings. redface But I'll respond to a text in 0.05 seconds!

I love cursive, too, though. mushy

When Jersey and I were long distance dating, I sent him long snail-mail love letters and poems in handwritten script, sprayed with perfume and sealed with old-fashioned wax w/ a heart-shaped stamp.

Yes, really. lol

For 99% of the time that I write, I use "drafting" lettering.

So I did a little test for this thread.

The script took me about 4 or 5 tries to get comfortable writing like that again.

The regular print was easier.

But the all-caps drafting style is what I'm more comfortable with.

Yes. I use cursive almost exclusively, although I've adapted a few letters to my own so it's not exactly like how we were taught in elementary school.

I sometimes get compliments on my handwriting. Maybe I'll try to post a sample later tonight or this weekend.

I used to write in cursive all the time when I was little. I was quite impressed with how those guys from centuries ago used to do it but now I can't even do cursive right anymore. lol

It's really odd. A couple of weeks ago, one of my friends was giving a presentation, and

while we were watching her presentation, I noticed that she had written some material

on our "parking lot" board---that's a board that we write items of discussion on which

are out of scope for the meeting but that we will get to should we have time or that

we will take home and resolve before the next meeting.

Anyways, on her parking lot board, she'd written all of the action items in cursive.

The penmanship was quite beautiful, but I commented on it saying, "Cursive? You

still write in cursive?" I wish I hadn't asked the question because it derailed the

conversation. More or less you could say that I'm guilting of jacking in real life

meetings more so than threads. boxed

Anyways, I discovered many Thai students can also write in English cursive.

They may murder the grammar and spelling, but the style and script of their writing

is often quite beautiful. lol

I just didn't see what the point was of learning cursive any longer. It's not a

difficult trait to learn, so it's not like we'll lose the ability to decipher historical

documents written in this style. And nobody writes business letters in pen any

longer. And anyway you look at it, it's much easier to read a student

essay written in print than cursive.

What is your opinion? Should it still be taught? If so, what's the point? Are you evil?

Is Prince gay?

Cursive is still being taught over here. Government is trying to propose its cancelation, but I don't know why. I think writing in cursive is faster and personally, my handwriting in cursive is easier to read than my print.

"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Okay.

The first is the usual chicken scratch with which I write.

The second is my attempt at more legible print.

Third is obvioulsy cursive. Maybe I should start using cursive all the time. hmmm

I don't know if it should be taught. It doesn't really seem necessary anymore, but it is nice.

I don't really have a set handwriting style anymore though. I alternate between about 4 or 5 styles depending on... well, I don't know really. One is quite close to my handwriting for most of my teen and adult years so I guess that's my normal handwriting, and it's in cursive, but I do non-cursive big round handwriting more, and angular styles sometimes, plus some with elements of calligraphy that I did as a kid. They're all quite different.

Like shanti0608, my wife and I still send letters by post to relatives, for thank-you cards and just newsy update letters.

But your variety of styles started somewhere.

My handwriting is all over the place; a real combination of print and cursive that can change from word to word, but I started learning to print, then write cursive.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Maybe it's my 8-10 grade drafting class lettering because mine do not usually blend

Do you have any tips on improving my penmanship? I feel like my writing reflects badly on me.
