Maybe I should add New York to the not exotic places. As somebody from an old European city I was expecting it to be overwhelming, but it was similar to London to me in many ways. I love London, so there's nothing wrong with that, I just expected NY to be much more exciting than it was for me.

With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

Really???

What killed it for you there?

The food, the weather, not enough eye candy. Nice to visit, once or twice but I'm good. cool

I like to feel like I'm on vacation when I go on vacation. So, for me that means tropical weather, exotic people, lots of good looking men, and great flavorful food. dancing jig

This is why I cancelled my trip to the Netherlands for the North Sea Jazz festival. I don't want to be anywhere cold for 2 weeks, not even for Prince. So I sold my show tix on ebay (made a hefty profit) and I'm going to the North Sea Jazz fest in Curacao instead. 85 degrees by a beach beats 50-60s in the Netherlands IMO.

I think that's the problem with being here. You get used to things being so different from back in the states, that things that are similar to Thailand don't seem exotic. lol

I really won't be long before I start thinking of places like Dayton Ohio as being unique and exotic falloff

The thing is, Queenstown's very cool and all, but I'd still rather be in Bali or on a nice Thai beach. cool It just stops being exotic, as you said, but I still love it. smile I don't like the pushy beach vendors in Bali though. Thai ones are very polite and respectful by comparison.

Actually, I'm probably not being entirely truthful since I live on the edge of a big city. Beaches are probably still more exotic to me than somewhere like Vientiane, Laos, which is similar to many Thai towns. I like Vientiane, too. It's just it feels so similar to being in Thailand there.

I wish the beaches had stands set up that these people could stay at. I hate being approached. I understand why they do it---they make money. But, I'm a 'quiet' beach person. I don't like to constantly be disturbed at the beach. lol

My primary issue with Thai beaches though, is the pollution. lawd.

But other than that, this is paradise. I'm lucky to be here.

Yep. They're a little pushy sometimes in Bang Saen when they see the kids. They do everything possible to make it as difficult for you to say no, knowing they're setting up a situation and a lot of crying if you don't buy from them.

Bang Saen, that's one of the dirty beaches here, for sure. There are a fair few others. There are also some nice clean ones. Bangtao Bay on Phuket is very nice. cool

I suppose most people would consider Trinidad & Tobago to be the most exotic place I've visited. But having been there so many times throughout my life, its magic is now lost on me. I find European cities now to be much more exciting because of the history.

I went to university in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. That's by far the least exotic big city I've seen.

I'm surprised you didn't say Southland for least falloff

DIRTY as in human pollution or dirty as in nature (shells, seaweed, rocks, etc.)?

I consider our beaches here on Long Island "dirty" because the water's always murky and sometimes even "oily" & full of seaweed, and the sand is sometimes rocky.

However, the Parks Department does a good job at keeping human litter off the beach (they have these big tractors that comb the sand every morning).
