My theory on what has happened to Saturday Mornings Saturday mornings are no longer the best time anymore. I remember the good old days of Saturday mornings, getting up fixing a bowl of cereal or your mother cooking your fave breakfast, while you watch your fave Sat. morning cartoons or shows and just enjoying 7 hours of straight-up fun!!! That's what's missing today.........................FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shit ain't like that no more, the fun has been replaced by too much educational stuff, which there's nothing wrong with it, but every now and then, but they won't. Hell! Schoolhouse Rock was educational, but they still made it fun!! The good ol' days of Saturday Mornings are now loooooooooong gone and all we have are the memories. Here's an example of why I loved the good ol' days of Saturday Mornings:

So true..those were the days! Missing Soul Train on Saturday morning at 11:00am was like missing church on Sunday for some folks. [Edited 4/12/11 8:01am]

That's really funny, 'cause it's completely true. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

hmmm Interesting Theory. I too miss saturday mornings the way they used to be but...I think it's because kids have Nick and Nick Jr. and various other channels that play cartoons 24/7. So it's just not "special" anymore like it was for us. Yes there's alot of educational stuff too but...believe me there's PLENTY of good ol crappy cartoons out there for kids to zone out on.
"not a fan" yeah...ok | |

I so agree. There is nothing like cereal and cartoons! Not these new anime cartoons. Kids today are missing out.
Shout out to The Flinstones!!

I freaking MISS those days. Personally, I blame the overcensoring adults of our generation...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
That's not the case at all.
Saturday morning cartoons are no longer needed because we have 24 hours a day, 7 days a week cartoon networks...and believe me, no overcensoring adults run those networks.
Every day is Saturday morning now.

when cable tv became more popular saturday morning cartoons suffered, imho. it also became expensive, even with the cheap cartoon style of "scooby doo", where the same background repeated itself over and over again during a chase sequence.

My old ass still watches cartoons...sometimes for a whole day or days at a stretch. Thanks cartoon network.

True. And I really dig the superhero cartoons they have on them. I set my DVR to record Young Justice, Brave and the Bold, Iron Man, The Avengers, and any other superhero shows that pop up.
And then I frequently watch them on Saturday mornings.

Actually, the Saturday cartoons went downhill in the mid-1980's when far too many of them became 30 minute commericals for the latest toy. But the rise of Disney and Nickelodeon plus after-school cartoon blocks on Fox affiliates (and later WB affiliates) basically killed Saturday morning cartoons. Then the networks went after tween audiences by airing live action sitcoms and action shows aimed at 10 to 15 year olds. It started with Saved By The Bell and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, and soon all of the big three networks were ditching most of their cartoons for cheaper live action shows. NBC got to the point where they only aired tween comedies but gave up on it after the year 2000. The only reason there are any cartoons on the air on Saturdays at all is because the FCC mandates that all the major newtorks must devote a limited amount of programming to air educational shows for children. But since the major networks don't want to pay for it themselves, they lease out their blocks of time to other networks. In the case of ABC, they rely on their Disney sister station while CBS lets Nickelodeon air their shows on Saturday. NBC uses Qubo, which is the kids affiliate of Ion television.

My Favorite cartoon ever was The Mighty Orbots.
It was by far the best robot cartoon on T.V.
But I think the name Orbots was too close to GoBots and the show had to scrapped.
Shame, becuase it was great. There are clips of it on youtube, but they're all poor quality. You're a real fucker. You act like you own this place--ParanoidAndroid <-- about as witty as this princess gets! I hope everyone pays more attention to Sags posts--sweething Jesus weeps
