We've never been snowed in, but a few years ago my daughter's school called for a snow day off. We suited up and went around to the park - which was freshly covered in snow - and made tracks all over it. And I took these with my cell phone.

Just last February. The Washington DC metropolitan area was blasted with 22-24" of snow. The snow on my deck drifted to 3 feet against the sliding glass door. I had to lliterally dig myself out of the house. I had to monitor my front door all through the night so that I could shovel the snow away so that the door could open. I had to do that about 3 times during the night, it was snowing furiously.

I wasn't working at University at that time, but I heard that they were shut down for a week.

When I saw the news about England's storm, it didn't look like a lot of snow to me. It looked to be about 6-8 inches and I thought, "Damn! Is that all?!" lol

Parts of England got a lot more than 6-8 inches. These really narrow roads and tiny towns are not equipped for lots of snow in a short period of time.

I think after the last two winters, they will start to make this country better equipped for the snow, as much as they.

17.1 inches over the last 2 days. Snowmageddon has stopped, but now the temperature has dropped. It's currently -1 F, with a -22 F windchill. (That's -18.3, with a -30 windchill for the celsius types.)

Yesterday the buses even stopped running, the state patrol told the taxi companies to get off the road and they eventually shut down the snow plows as well as it was near blizzard conditions - so no visibility.

Our annual friends Xmas party was supposed to be last night (at Anxy and Darin's) and we rescheduled, but a few of us who were close enough bundled up and walked over. What a sight! At parts there were snow drifts up to our hips! We encountered several stuck vehicles and an ambulance stuck behind an interesection full of stuck vehicles. On our walk home my bf and I helped push a woman out of a stuck spot as well.

The clean-up will take days to get things passable but with this much snow and the cold winter just beginning we're gonna have nasty streets and parking conditions the rest of the winter now.

Be careful you guys. Ours is almost all gone. They are calling for more snow next week. The snow wasn't so bad, it was the really thick slush that turned to ice that made it hard to get around.
