Bullying - A Special Two-Part Series This Week on EERS

Oddly, I had already thought about, and scheduled, a show on bullying a few weeks ago, before the horrid stories in the news started popping up in September. It seems every day there's either a new story of bullying, or there are a gaggle of public figures & celebrities who are gay, out, or activists, and voicing their disgust and concern. Even tonight on Larry King Live, there's Chely Wright, Nate Berkus, Wanda Sykes, Kathy Griffin, Lance Bass, & Tim Gunn talk about their experiences with bullying. I've sat in tears for days over these stories. They are so raw, real, and hit me to the core, as I'm sure it does anyone with a heart and a soul.

So I decided to add an extra show this week to discuss the topic. On one or both shows, I'll also being going into overtime, meaning that even after the show ends LIVE, we'll keep recording for up to another hour - all of which will end up in the podcast onDemand later.

Please join us this week, and tell us your story about being bullied in school, at work, or even in your own home by your family and friends. 1.347.746.EERS or 1.347.989.1942.

The two shows will be Wednesday and Thursday, at 9 p.m. EDT each night. You must be on the phone or listening by calling in with Skype to hear the overtime segment live, but if you miss any part of the live show or overtime, it will all be available in the podcast later.

Wednesday 9 p.m. EDT - Part 1: http://bit.ly/9c1P2p

Thursday 9 p.m EDT - Part 2: http://bit.ly/czRXAo

The chat room will be open, and we'll be reading your comments on the air, so please participate. This all rises above disagreements over Prince's fucking shoe size, or whether Macy Gray is talented, or even if God exists - it's about being human. Let's start from there, and talk about it. Please let anyone and everyone you know about the shows, and tune in with them. Get in the chat room with them, and participate.

Kathy Griffin is an insult comic... she makes a living off humiliating people... seems completely hypocritical for her to talk about bullying imo.

Kathy rocked it tonight on LKL. Wanda looked like she was caught in the headlights for the hour.

Griffin isn't an insult comic. Not even close. You could say the same about Lisa Lampanelli, or Don Rickles or Triumph- people who ARE insult comics.

When you go to a comedy concert, you understand what is going to go on. The same for a roast, like the old Dean Martin roasts, or the new Comedy Central Roasts. It's COMEDY. You shouldn't have to go to school, work, or even be home and expect to be bullied and beat up verbally or otherwise. It's not the same forum as a concert or a roast.

If you don't like Griffin, just say so, but don't make up a story to suit your dislike of her.

CNN's morning show is also doing bullying segments this morning, and Tuesday. I DVR'd todays, and will do the same for Tuesday's show. It's on 6 a.m. - 9 a.m. They did 2 or 3 segments in the 3 hour period today (Monday). They talked about an 11 year old boy in Oklahoma (my home state) who killed himself after being bullied for 2 years at school.

The school said they had no record of the parents ever reporting the bullying. However, there's also no school policy in place to document a report of bullying, or create any kind of paper trail. It's a very passive/aggressive approach to saying "Not our fault". 41 states have some sort of anti-bullying regulations in place, but a lot of places leave it up to the school districts individually, so there is even more differences in the policies, if they exist at all.

The father blames himself for not protecting his child. The school's solution? Send the child home a little early to get a head start on the bullies. Um...right. So we single out the child even more and put a spotlight on him?????

I used to skip my 6th hour Spanish class to get home early to avoid bullies in my sophomore year. It was a blessing my junior year because 1) I could get a ride home w/ friends who finally had cars, and/or 2) if you were up to speed on your credits, you only had to take five classes, not six, so I got out that our earlier anyway. Our senior year we only had to take four classes, so I got out even earlier to get home and to work.

So the people being joked about in these comedy concerts... you don't think they are hurt by what is said? I'm sure plenty of kids think the same way... "it's just comedy"...

If that is your stance on comedians, never watch one again. Also, you should start petitions to remove every gossip site, entertainment magazine, entertainment shows on television (ET, Access Hollywood, Wendy Williams, Showbiz Tonight, etc) and have every single one of them removed. Also, any comedic movie that makes fun of people, situations, etc, should be removed. Spoof movies are bullying the movies they're mocking - so those should be removed as well. Any political ad attacking an opponent should be banned forever as well.

In fact, let's just get rid of the First Amendment all together. Why do we need it? There is no God except money and sex, people only assemble to end up making a littered mess of the grounds, and obviously real people speaking in real terms is all bogus anyway. How very Big Brother of you. Will you try to obliterate the orgasm as well, like Big Brother did?

So do I. I think she's often very funny -- and correct... but she is an insult comic, nonetheless.

Yes, tonight and tomorrow. Of course you can call in. I'll probably do some commentary in the beginning, then take calls. You can call and listen by phone until that point if you wish (opposed to listening online), but either works.

The chat room will be open for anyone who wants to join in as well.

please put in a word about freedom of speech, and how it's okay for people to express their own, personal opinions in the context of an internet message board and how others should never stand up and say 'you can't say that! shut up!'

The show is about bullying. We can cover free speech, and agreeing to disagree, at another time.

How about you recognize that NOBODY called for you to rescue them. You poked your nose into somebody elses business without being asked. And now you're dragging it around to other threads like it's your problem? Seriously, WTH? lol It had nothing to do with you, first of all. Second, I didn't tell her what she could and could not say. I called her on the ridiculousness of something she DID say. She handled herself just fine and and it's long since done. Now mind your own damn business. Silly person. lol

Also, the entire reason I asked Ernest if he was going to include internet forums is because nearly all of his responses are dismissive, rude and condescending. In that regard I found his choice of topic quite ironic.

Listen sunshine, you can call me a bully all you wish, either directly or subversively, but it's bullshit. You don't like how I post or that I tell it like it is? Who cares. A bully has a harsh, and sustained campaign against an individual in order to intimidate, and strike fear into. I've never done that, even on the Org. So find your irony in the fact that you're on my ass trying to call me out on something that doesn't exist, bully.
