Almost Famous: Film

Just watched it last night. Just bought it on Blu-ray.

Not sure why it made me so sad though. Awoken childhood dreams I guess.

it's one of the best films ever made. an amazing cast, great soundtrack. the tiny dancer bit is one of my favourites along with the plane confessions

jason lee (my name is earl)
kate hudson
zooey deschanel
anna paquin (true blood)
phillip seymore hoffman
rain wilson (the office)
bijou phillips
billy crudup
jimmy fallon

it's one of my fave blurays, and it's the long cut on bluray

Great film. I love the soundtrack.

It never was released on blu-ray here in the states, but I think the UK version is region free, right?

the uk bluray is region free, but the german version is region b. it's not been release on bluray in the states. you can get it for about £7 easily in the uk, pretty cheap. you don't get the theatrical cut and all the extras on the bluray, but you got the dvd for that

I meant that there is also a Region 1 release. It's an import, but it is Region 1 NTSC.

I don't think there is a separate region 1 release. I know Amazon has listed wrong region coding info before.

NTSC relates to dvd or vhs, not bluray or hddvd as hd isn't ntsc or pal, and dvds are region 1, 2, etc, whilst bluray are region a, b, c etc. hd-dvd had no region encoding

almost famous is available on dvd in ntsc region 1 (i have it), but on bluray it was only released in the uk as a region free disc and in germany as region b (europe) encoded disc. it's not yet been released in america, but you can order the uk version from amazon etc and still play it in the states

i just watched the bluray again tonight as i had nothing else decent worth watching

Well, I'm only quoting what is on that page. I'll probably just download it if I wanted to check it out.

Mine too! I LOVE this movie!!! It's definitely is my favorite Cameron Crowe flick (replacing FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH which I still love as well) - and as far as script and characterizations and acting - it's near perfect!

Harlepolis

My FAVE character is the mother - forgot the actress' name, she stole EVERY scene.

In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a weak performance from that woman.

Ok, I looked her up, her name is Frances McDormand.

As unique pointed out, that bit of info doesn't even make any sense. Most likely it was lazily copied from the DVD page.

I love ths film but if you want films that inexplicably stir childhood memories, emotions etc for no good reason i'd have to go for Vanilla Sky, The Lovely Bones and American Pie 2.

No I'm not joking...3 completely different and unsuitable films for childhood association and nowhere near out until my childhood was over by nearly 2 decades.
Vanilla sky I guess jogs my memory about tough choices, crushes and going seperate ways.

Lovely bones reminds me of my carefree childhood, fields, being that age etc

American Pie 2...the beach party reminds me of those I miss and have left behind

Now see, it's easy to hate Vanilla Sky (mainly due of course to Tome Cruise) yet I found it quite nice. It nearly loses it at the end but somehow recovers just in time. It's one of the better movies out there but any movie casting Cruise is always making it harder for itself.

Haven't seen The Lovely Bones so will keep an eye out for it.

I watched most of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night. Another oddball movie (of which there are so many) yet I enjoyed the ambience of the setting and time.

don't be put off by the overall...there wasn't that much murder in my childhood smile

visually it just jogs something and the small town setting just stirsimages of playing out with innocence

Ya know, as much as I've heard alot OF talk about Fargo, I don't think I ever watched it, not even in passing disbelief I'm sure I'll love it, since it was directed by the same guys who did The Big Lebowski love

As for Frances, something tells me she'll be a TV royalty soon,,,she has all the ingredients of becoming one nod
