Arrange By:Fresh | Rotten | Comments | Name | Source | Date A rambling, pseudo-Freudian house of horrors, with lots of things to jump out of us and look creepy but virtually nothing that's truly scary. Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Katey Rich
CinemaBlend.com A more emotionally expressive actor might have given us a more visceral connection to the legend than what the superbly mounted production provides.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Jules Brenner
Cinema Signals Would that Joe Johnston's The Wolfman were spectacularly awful, then it would have been at least a fun time at the movies.
Full Review | 1 Comment 02/10/10 Ed Gonzalez
Slant Magazine Feels like a filmmaker more concerned with making this grand-looking epic and less concerned with keeping modern horror lovers as riveted to the screen as the original did back in its day.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Edward Douglas
ComingSoon.net "An American Werewolf In London" still retains its title as the best werewolf movie ever made.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Cole Smithey
ColeSmithey.com The action scenes are pure kinetic motion, which is what Johnston is best at; he fares less well when he goes for mood or suspense.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Ray Greene
Boxoffice Magazine The Wolfman ends up a disappointment, then, somewhat interesting in places, but nothing to howl about.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Bill Goodykoontz
Arizona Republic
Top CriticA brooding but dramatically muted reboot of the classic monster-movie franchise, director Joe Johnston’s action-horror film oozes Gothic atmosphere without supplying any character to fill it.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Tim Grierson
Screen International Not so much howlingly bad as it is disappointingly lifeless. Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Michael Rechtshaffen
Hollywood Reporter
Top CriticSnore, snore, fur, snore, snore, blood.
Full Review | 1 Comment 02/10/10 Jordan Hoffman
UGO By pandering to the Avatar market’s debased taste and indifference to storytelling details, this technically polished, emotionally crude remake sets back the advances that once had been made in horror movies.
Full Review | 9 Comments 02/10/10 Armond White
New York Press "Why so serious?" would be an excellent question to direct at the makers of The Wolfman, a high-toned, bloody but otherwise bloodless effort.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Todd McCarthy
Variety
Top CriticDel Toro gives his least mumbly performance in years, Blunt provides the film with a little heart and Hopkins delivers the laughs.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Roger Moore
Orlando Sentinel There's more emotion in the monster's howls, which were created by a baritone opera singer, than in Del Toro's monotone mutterings.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 David Germain
Associated Press
Top CriticLycanthropic lore, and lots of gore.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Staci Layne Wilson
Horror.com Decent production values and makeup can't compensate for the dramatically inert text, made worse by banal dialogue even gifted Del Toro can't help, and helmer's little understanding of the genre, the anxiety, fear, fun it has offered viewers for decades.
Full Review | Comment 02/10/10 Emanuel Levy
EmanuelLevy.Com Johnston sacrifices originality for computer graphics and stop-motion camera tricks, and the script, by Andrew Kevin Walker and David Self, bulges with real howlers: “I didn’t know you hunted monsters.” “Sometimes monsters hunt you!”
Full Review | 4 Comments 02/10/10 Rex Reed
New York Observer
Top CriticIf you like your horror with a bit of B-goodness and nostalgia added for flavour, then The Wolfman is right up your alley.
Full Review | 3 Comments 02/09/10 Hernán Alcerreca
V Music The poor pacing, blatantly obvious narrative signposting and over-reliance on false scares generated by sudden sounds and movements, removes any chance of The Wolfman actually being frightening.
Full Review | 31 Comments 02/08/10 Thomas Caldwell
Cinema Autopsy Written and crafted with great sensitivity, this is high class gothic horror

Definitely!

The Wolfman was my hero when I was a kid. All other werewolves pale in comparison to the real Wolfman!

Nada.

Everything these days is a remake or rework of an already told tale.

See, I don't think Brad's all that, so if you told me that and I didn't know what he looked like, I'd be turned off.
Benicio is FINE! drool

The original came out in 1941.
I love Special Effects, but I hope that's not all it will be.

One remake I hated was "House on Haunted Hill" because they just turned it into a "slash-fest". disbelief

He looks like he's suffering from an extreme eye allergies... his eyes look so swollen....

He looks like a damn wolf... lol he's actually perfect for that role! He'll be better than Jack Nicholson. He won't even need that much make-up.

Imma definitely see this!

The Howling is my favorite werewolf flick as well. I saw it again a few weeks ago, and it generally still holds up. I wouldn't want to see a remake, but it'd be interesting to see that story with maybe an additional 30 minutes of running time to smooth out the pace.

I have all 6 of the Howling movies, although I only like the first 2.

There were 6 of them jokes??

I've seen the first Howling a few years back. For an 80s flick it had pretty good make up; the wolf outfits looked real and the special effects when the people turn are horrific. It grosses me out. All that bubblin' and drool and dropping of the fangs.
