In the original pic Mon's just sitting on our bed with all this mess in the background. I erased the background, turned it black, then I think I did a control point on the background in Capture NX and just played with that to get more of a shadow effect on the left. It's also desaturated and I think the last step was using the x-pro filter in photoshop. I've got white background versions, black with full colour, black and white, desaturated etc. - quite a few different variations. I wouldn't know where to begin with studio lighting.
