I personally don't get either of them.

Anderson looks like a little boy and other dude is well...he looks like he's been punched in the face several hundred times. Maybe people just like his body but that's just not enough for me...I think his muscles are too big anyway.

I've never thought Anderson was all that good looking. And the fact that he's still closeted at this point in his career makes me respect him less.

I don't understand the fascination with Anderson Cooper either. He's handsome I guess, but there's really nothing about him that makes me want to do him in his butt.

Has he actually claimed that he was straight? I don't see why he even has to say anything about it. There is nothing wrong with being ambiguous, imo.

He's never claimed to be straight. He's only said that he understands why people would be interested but that it's not something he wants to discuss publically.

So he's said, "yeah--I'm gay, but get off my case." essentially.

I'm not sure if he's ever claimed to be straight. If he wants to be ambiguous, that's fine, but I don't think he really is being that way. It seems like he's trying to have his cake and eat it too. I can understand why he might want to do that for ratings and monetary reasons, but it just makes me respect him less.

I never heard of the guy before today, but his butt requires inspection due to his resembling one of your TV evangelist types. One wants to make him cry.

In Anderson Cooper's specific case, we sort of understand why he won't open his mouth and let the rainbows fly. All the guy has ever wanted to do was be an old-fashioned newsman and unfortunately him coming out would make him a part of the story. Every time he tried to cover something having to do with gay civil rights (or Madonna or Fire Island) plenty of people would claim that his reporting was biased because of his sexual orientation. It's not fair: Katie Couric doesn't have to worry when she covers pay inequality for women, and neither does Harry Smith when discussing new medicine that will eradicate baldness.

Coming out would open Cooper up to irrational accusations from those waiting to pounce on the "liberal media" just as quickly as A.C. pounces on his muscle man in an Indian hotel room. That sucks, but it's the way it currently is. How does it get changed? Well, by having some major national news figures come out and show that they can still get blown over in a hurricane or report live from a war zone without breaking into a anti-Prop 8 rant.

I know what you're saying, but I really disagree with it and would argue that's it's not really part of the consideration. I would argue that most gay issues are straight issues as well (meaning, for example, that gay marriage is a huge issue for straight people, and there are large groups of straight people who oppose it--yet no one would make the argument that straight people can't report on the issue). And journalists can and should be able to report on issues that directly affect them. Women report on female issues, blacks report on black issues, Jews report on Jewish issues, and on and on. Conversely, as made famous in a joke by Kathy Griffin, Anderson Cooper was able to cover the aftermath of Katrina while wearing Prada--his wealth vs. their extreme poverty didn't stop CNN from sending him there.

Again, I understand why he might be afraid to lose ratings, but I'm not buying his "I don't want to be the news" argument. I don't think it's a mutually exclusive thing.

look at the Adam Lambert controversy. They can show a photo of Madonna kissing Brit Brit but they blur a photo of him kissing his keyboardist. It's all part of the same problem.

Meh. The American media are a bunch of pussies, no doubt, particularly when it comes to sex. But we're just talking about being out. Rachel Maddow is able to do it without becoming the news herself. I think a man could as well.

Exactly working at NPR and MSNBC her queerness is just a feather in their progressive news hat. That shit wouldn't fly as well at CNN or CBS.

So are you guys saying he would be out of the closet if his employer would allow him to be and he only stays in to make CNN happy? That would make me respect him even less.

no what we are saying there is a double standard when it comes to an out lesbian, ie rosie, ellen, rachel, melissa etheridge, kd lang, who's careers don't take a hit or maybe even get a boost and an out gay man.

But we started out talking about Anderson specifically. If CNN fired him for being gay, another network would snap him up quickly.

Also Anderson is an investigative reporter that goes on assignments to countries that lets just say aren't as approving as homosexuality as the usa is. wink

CNN knows hes a big homo, most everyone in the gay community or the celebrity world knows it, he just doesn't want to be known as that OUT reporter covering stories where he is seen as bias on news coverage. Lord Faux would have a field day.
