Nobody has to wear them.

Most people couldn't afford them.

I meant why aren't men expected to wear this shit? Don't get me wrong, I think it's art. I'd sit it in the middle of my dining room table, but geez...why do us women throughout history have to have the 'bound' feet? The painful shoes? The weakened arches? I love my heels but damn... lol

This is ridiculous. razz

The idea to keep in mind though is that at this level of the game (meaning couture, McQueen), no one's actually expecting women to wear these shoes in everday life, in this day and age. They're really just an artistic indulgence on behalf of the designer and meant to be more of a conversation piece to spark fantasy and imagination. Unless it's for an editorial fashion spread (which by the way, are also indulgences on behalf of the artistic teams who create them), girl, you betta stick that shoe on the table or in an enclosed case and keep it movin' lol !

The appeal of these things has me completely baffled. Maybe I'm just a boring old fart. What say you, org? YEA or NAY?

It's just an extreme distortion on the English "Cromwell" shoe fad from the late 1800's (the shoe i have in mind was from about 1890, I think). It's a culty kind of thing that makes a re-appearance every once in a while. Couldn't wear it, obviously. But not unlike noimageatall, I would not be adverse to having this shoe displayed in my house, prob. only the jewel encrusted one, though. I really want to see that bitch up close. hmmm

I'd like to see how the inside is constructed. I have the feeling it's made like a regular shoe encased in that shell. When I first looked at it, I thought the foot would be distorted. Now I'm not so sure... hmmm

Their look is completely dependent on the setting IMO.
If you can master them and walk graceful as most of the girls on that runway there is a sense of "floating" almost. Very surreal. So if they were worn to the opening of a modern/conceptual/avant garde art, they would seem appropriate and beautiful and fitting. Or an avant garde fashion retrospective at a museum (imagine some fierce bitch getting out of her limo and walkin up the Met's steps faint in those. worship

If you wear them to the bar on Friday night you will look like an ass.

Well yea.

And you will bump your head on the light fixture if you try to play pool.

And people will point and laugh and you will say "You assholes, these shoes cost more than your rent!"

...but it won't help. sad

Yeah you are. They're basically a platform heel-stilt kind of thingy. If a person can walk on stilts, they can walk on these. Imagine the fun in practicing! Pure theatre love!

Like jonart said, we need to find a crucial art showing to wear them to, or something at the Met...but is has to Avant-garde...these are even too much to wear to the CFDA Gala nod
