putting your stuff in storage... so after a year of living back at the family house, i've decided to stop climbing over shit and rented a storage unit. 10 x 12 for $100 a month. i really don't feel like paying it, but i'm not moving anytime soon and i really need the space.

I'm storing stuff in my shed for a friend

anybody else storing stuff? Sounds like it's time to whittle down, and do some hard core expulsion of the extras. Why pay $1200 a year, for how long?, for things that you probably won't use in a year's time. If you haven't used it in a year, the chances are quite high that you never will. once it's in there, you really don't miss it. almost everything i own was in storage for over a year. and for the year prior, i had no access to it. it makes you realize, especially when you move and get it out, that you can really do without a lot of your stuff. it's nice to have it now that i've got somewhere for it to be, but i still don't really need any more than what the limited amount of stuff i was using when it was being stored.

when I spent 3 weeks overseas by myself, I realised I have a house full of crap I don't need, and a wardrobe full of clothes I never wear. What was in my suitcase was plenty. I came home and totally got rid of anything unflattering, that made me look like a slob, or anything that I put on and usually take off in favour of something I like more. Regardless of how much I'd spent on it. Gave it all to goodwill. Now I have space for new thing I'm going to buy only if they are flattering and I really REALLY like it When I was 16, I fully expected to be able to build my own KITT car.

when i moved to florida 10 years ago, i gave away 85% of my stuff to friends and family, thinking i would be gone forever. i moved back exactly one year later, and a lot of shit i wished i kept i don't have anymore. i took my entire vinyl/dj collection to florida (1,000 +) and it was sooooo much stuff i gave to a friend. now i'm scouring youtube and ebay for shit already had. so if at all possible i'm trying to keep my shit this time your mama so dumb she thought she was gonna get exclusive shit by joining lotusflow3r.com

It’s so hard for me to get rid of anything. I always think it'll come back, I loose the weight & it'll fit again, my girls may want it one day, yadda yadda yadda. It’s so bad, I still have my year 12 formal Dress, my Engagement Dress, My Wedding Dress, all my 80's short tarty and nothing FITS. I am getting ready to move, and my new apartment does not have as much closet space as my current one. I am going to try to get rid of a lot of clothes I hardly wear, etc. But I may have to rent a small storage unit for some things. My downfall is my art history books. Last time I moved (2 years ago) I purged, but I still have 10 medium sized boxes of very heavy art books. I can't bear to part with them - I still use them when I am preparing for my museum tours. But man, are they a pain in the ass to move.

I use to have a storage unit, but I got tired of paying for it every month,so I went, and made 2 piles stuff that I really still wanted, and crap that I could really do without. After that was done I had a huge yard sale, made enough to buy my first digital camera, what did'nt sell was dropped off at Goodwill.

anybody else storing stuff? [Edited 11/5/09 20:29pm] Ouch! I could never see myself paying 100.00 a month to store stuff. Then again my belongings are crap. PaisleyPark, is in your heart...

I had to move recently, and while I would hardly consider myself a hoarder or pack rat, I had a ton of stuff which I never used or hadn't used in years, so most of it I either threw away or put up in collection boxes for free clothes or books. I had three DVD players, of which I only use one, so I put the other two along with an old working microwave in the back alley for either trash or salvage pickup. While the other stuff I put in the alley was left for the garbage collectors the next day, the DVD players and microwave were gone.
