Three years ago today... I was visiting Florida and met up with an Orger with whom I'd shared some online jokes, a few good-natured phone conversations, and a love of old-school hip-hop. We expected to have a few beers, shoot the shit and laugh a lot.

Somebody had me a Kleenex that's so beautiful. Be very careful how you treat people: You know where you've been but you don't where you're going.

Congratulations! That's great to hear. People who meet our family (we each had 2 kids when we met) are usually surprised that we're a blended family; we all fit together so well. We are truly blessed. 'Cause I ain't the same bird I used to be

Thanks. I love it too, for so many reasons.
I don't really talk about it here, but I have a long past that includes all types of abuse (sexual, physical, emotional, etc.), trauma and heartbreak. It has made me strong and I learned to be independent and think forward instead of looking back. I was all right with "doing bad all by myself" and taking care of myself and my daughters alone. But when I met Chris, for the first time in my life there was someone capable and willing to take care of me, really take care of me. As in protect me, keep me safe, do for me what I cannot do for myself, and encourage and challenge me to do all that I can do. My youngest daughter was having a terrible asthma attack yesterday, and I couldn't call in to work. Chris stayed home with her all day, giving her her breathing treatments, bringing her to the doctor, feeding her, all the things a dad should do. Those small, simple things are what make him so amazing to me. ![]() 'Cause I ain't the same bird I used to be

It was something about how when you first saw him, you just really wanted to hug him, that you were instantly attracted to and safe with him but you wanted to act cool. (If I'm remembering the story correctly--it really struck a chord with me when you posted it way back when.) Anyway, I love that your first initial instinct was so true and has remained so.
