Do you know the symptoms of a heart attack?

I ask 'cause I just came back from the hospital.

Don't worry - it was only a case of acute alarmicisitis (long story short: woke up with a heartburn-like sensation and pain in my arm + uncle who recently died from a heart attack = call to 911).

Scary feeling, though (sitting in an ambulance, thinkin' I might be another casualty in The Summer of Death).

Anyhoo...take care of yourselves, get your shit in order and remember: Better safe than sorry.

I'd never called an ambulance for myself before (my health has generally been top-notch and I'm the furthest thing from an alarmist there is). Hesitated, but didn't wanna take the chance.

Every mention has a few different lists of symptoms...
Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs: These may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

Or...
Discomfort, pressure, heaviness, or pain in the chest, arm, or below the breastbone
Discomfort radiating to the back, jaw, throat, or arm
Fullness, indigestion, or choking feeling (may feel like heartburn)
Sweating, nausea, vomiting, or dizziness
Extreme weakness, anxiety, or shortness of breath
Rapid or irregular heartbeats

glad it was a false alarm.

My mum passed away 6 yrs ago. her symptopms were a stiff sore neck & shoulders...we had no idea she was actually having a heart attack. this went on for 2-3 days...she wanted to wait & see if it got better,,she was sure she just pulled a muscle.

I finally got hubby to drive her to the ER..they said she had a massive heart attack..i was so shocked b/c she looked fine & was in good spirits.

she was at the hospital & she passed on the 6th day.

anywho...a few days later i was cleaning out her apt & began having severe chest pains..i ended up in the ER...they did many tests & concluded it was "broken heart syndrome"..i know it doesnt sound real....but the pain sure was.

i have researched this alittle - the symptoms - mainly cus my father and mother both were told by cardiologists that they had heart attacks at some time - and didnt report it /know it etc....

My conclusion - i wont probably have a clue either ! I mean when i go down that list of symptoms - i have had those alot of times in my 44 years !!!

True story - there is a guy here in my office ... he is alittle older than me ... but he was around 53 - woke up one day with symptoms and told his wife "i think i am having a heart attack " and she drove him to the ER - about 45 minutes when the cardiac doctor came in - he fell over and "died" - - - they revived him ... and he tells everyone now - he believes he was brought back to tell everyone his story . The cardiac Dr said that he was the "perfect patient" because he realized the symptoms and came into the ER - he also took a bunch of BAYER aspiron before he came in (which the DR said probably saved him also ). The DR said that most people in that predicament - especially MEN - figure they are "Feeling sick" and go to sleep - and of course NEVER WAKE UP ... die of a massive heart attack ...

sadly . that will probably be me . i hope not . but ... then again .....

are u sure you are not under stress? anxiety can cause "heart attack" like symptoms- chest pain and all.

If you have to do something kicking and screaming and tearing down others with your "self love" words- maybe you shouldn't be doing it in the first place.

I had bad heartburn one night and it made me worry quite a bit. I felt okay other than the pain, but bad chest pain is not something you just blow off.

A friend had regular heartburn, so much so that when he did have his heart attack he almost ignored it!
