Lace Fronts

O.k.- now I've noticed that they are everywhere and everybody is wearing them. I'm seeing them in every beauty supply store- just a visit to the local grocery store, sam's club, walmart, mall- and somebody is rockin one.

Will they just replace tracks? Will weave be revolutionized now that you can buy a lace front with your link card? I'm confuzzled...

You have to glue it to your forehead and put face makeup over it. At least that's how Bounshay's are done. shake

This is why I think it's absolutely ridiculous that she's selling hair care products while swingin' a head full of weave in the commercial. Bullshit! hammer

Even the human hair comes pretreated with the color you want. You CAN color it but it's better to just buy the color you want to avoid processing the hair.

Really!?!? omfg Why would somebody want to do that? Are tracks or gluing weave to existing hair not stable enough?

...I have to admit, too, I have trouble identifying weave. redface I need help.

The purpose of the lace front is so you have a "natural" looking hairline. It's basically a wig with a webbing at the front which you glue to your forehead and cover with makeup. With a weave, your own hair is left out in the front to cover the tracks close to your hairline (if you have tracks there).

As for detecting weave, if it's done right and realistically you shouldn't be able to tell. I myself wore a weave for almost 13 years straight and people thought it was my hair because I spent money for good quality hair and had it sewn in a unique way that made it look more natural. Plus, I didn't have it down to my ass. rolleyes

Interesting. Seems like a hell of a lot of work...but I'm pretty sure Tyra uses these lace fronts and it looks great on her.

confuse Maybe a dumb question, but having your own natural long hair can get hot, so isn't all this fake hair -- and basically wigs that you glue onto your scalp -- really hot and uncomfortable sometimes?

Some people can't stand it, especially if they're prone to dandruff, dry scalp, or if they sweat in their scalp, and only wear weaves for special events or short periods of time. It never bothered me and I live in hot ass, humid ass Texas. I don't get itchy scalp and I never greased my scalp or anything. So everybody's different. shrug

I remember when this first came out and there was video of it too and you could clearly see the wrinkles. So I don't think it's photoshopped. Besides this isn't the only time this happened to her. shrug

I used to wear lace fronts a couple years ago and they were a lot of work.I used to blow my paychecks on them. I started wearing them because I had a lot of damage to my real hair and I wanted something that protected my hair from heat and daily styling. I ended up losing my hairline (it grew back) and had wigs that weren't that realistic looking to me. I was walking around pretending that 22' inches of Remy hair was all mine lol

It's kinda funny seeing some women wear them now, especially in my town. I live in a small town in Indiana and women are just now catching on to the "lace front" trend. They have their lace wigs glued on with black weave glue, super glue, you name it. The hairlines are all thick and wigs look like helmets. I've gone natural and switch between my natural hair and clip-in tracks that match my curl pattern. I never wear those again lol.

That sounds like hella work. I'm blessed that after so many years of wearing weave my hair is still grows and is healthy. However, it did damage my edges, but I've been taking a break for the last 5 months and my edges are getting back to normal. Good for you going natural. thumbs up!

A GOOD lace front will cost between 300 to 1200. BUT, the shit lasts for up to 6 months. You can swim in it! Yes! A GOOD wig shop will have you come in for a consultation, measure, and order your wig. Most women have their hair really short when it is on or braided; because it lasts a long time. All that mesh is trimmed down when it is applied and is put on you by the consultant.

I used to work in a boutique that sold lace fronts. I want one for myself, but I change my hair mood so much and that's an expensive mood to change. SO I still go with Beverly Johnson and Raquel Welch wigs.
