Exactly. Pay off debt, buy a somewhat decent house and car and it's all gone. wow, this is one reason why I'll never leave the south...cost of living...I could buy/build a new home in this area rather cheap compared to most other places...not alot of debt...could put money up for the kids and buy a couple of reasonable vehicles and still have plenty left...it wouldn't be life changing but it would certainly make it more comfortable...

Ya'll are killing me with this "$1 million ain't enough to do shit with" bullshit. Hell, I can come up with 10 things to do with a $1000. Do any of ya'll got a $1 million collecting interest in the bank? If not, then I bet if somebody gave you that much money you'd sho nuf find more than 10 ways to spend it.

I guess maybe everyones perspective of "significance" is different I know for us, we could do something significant with 1 million ( even after taxes ) like paying for 2 children's entire college education - THAT is significant indeed

I COULD use that money to put towards a slightly nicer house in a slightly nicer suburb maybe, but that would be really wasteful.
Imagine how many villages in Vietnam or Cambodia one could help with water and electricity - my friend said when he was travelling there, he gave a village $35 and that paid to have the power put on

Probably the wisest answer yet. I wouldn't be able to comfortably live off of the interest either (here in LaLa-Land given the current economy), but it would make still having to work a lot easier knowing I had that financial cushion in place. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I could go travelling and buy some stuff i guess but as far as life changing.....not gonna be enough, weird because i was talking to a guy at work about exit strategies the other day and we are currently banking on needing a NET £5mil to make it viable..... shit but that is the way of the world, you can eat through 650k in no time. I don't know you mdiver but from the small amount i have seen on the org you seem like the sorta bloke that i would like to have a beer with and what not However there seems so much wrong with the quote above "buy stuff.. exit strategies... Net £5million.....viable....eat through 650k in no time... is that whole ethos some of the reason for the current economic shite that prevails Maybe i am being to idealistic and hippy like ? (which is sorta the direction i am happy with these days) Please dont take this as a personal attack hell i was an estate agent for 12 years and i wouldn't have bothered posting if i didn't think you were a good guy its probably more of just a personal musing on my part really Do we need to buy "stuff"and have £5million to exit and be happy?
