So Storm is in the lasso? shrug It's not like she needs her arms to be free to call up any number of climactic conditions to dispatch WW.

who ever is bound by the lasso has no free will and answers only to the person holding it. Storm wouldn't stand a chance. Especially if Diana got mad and decided to lay the smack down. In the DCU only Superman is stronger than Diana.

[Edited 3/14/09 18:05pm]

But Storm has shown uncanny resistance to psionic control and a constitution strong enough to host the essence of not just the gods of any random pantheon, but of Eternity -- the sum of all that is! mad Even if all twelve Olympians plus Gaia, a Titan, had given WW 100% of their powers, I still don't think she'd necessarily be a match for a being who could harbor the presence of Chaos (if we stuck to a Hellenist cosmology) itself!

So there! smile

Could the lasso be taken from Diana and/or be used by anyone?

When did Storm become Phoenix lite?

You got me shrug I haven't read the books in a long time. I got the Eternity thing from Storm's Wiki page. biggrin ...And if she's an Omega-level mutant, who knows how powerful Marvel intends her to be?

But again, I think it's silly to have SUCH powerful heroes. The thrill of the books to me (especially the mutant books) had been that while powerful, these characters were still people... and could die.

And who are we kidding? Let's face it: Wonder Woman is a Lesbian smile ...and Storm has this whole "earth mother" thing going. If they met, they'd easily consider one-another "sister" and go off to braid one-another's hair and say mean stuff about the chauvinist males on their respective teams..

Dr Strange and the Phoenix i thought were the only characters that operated on their own rules, now it seems everyone in the Marvel Universe is Godlike.

The character to me that was the most insanely powerful to the point of annoyance... at least in some incarnations... was Batman... I mean, sometimes Batman is shown to be so insanely intelligent that he can do anything...

i think i only loved Linda Carter in the Wonder Woman costume.

Isn't it funny, though, how the costume hasn't aged so well? Those bottoms look like an incontinence garment now. giggle

WW's comic-book costume would look real stupid on the big screen. She would definitely need a make-over. Is Joss Whedon still involved with the WW movie?

I'm not sure who is slated to be WW on screen. But, yes, her costume is in for a MAJOR refresh! Not only would it look embarrassingly cheesy, but it'd be an intolerable T&A show for a film kids would flock to see.

At the same time, though, her costume is iconic. Whoever updates it will have generations of comic geeks to appease.

Keep the red top(with the emblem), make her costume full-length and add some battle armor. That would work.

Both DC and Marvel have been cranking up the powers of too many of their best characters to the point where they're effectively all godlike. How BORING! Where's the drama in invulnerability?

That said, in their original iterations, I think Storm would have blasted WW into little chunks of smoldering Amazon flesh. Ororo's near-divinity with regard to the elements had been flirted with since day one, with her weather-controlling ability simply being either the key manifestation of it or a separate mutant ability on top of it altogether. Diana, on the other hand, wasn't initially meant to be anything near a Greek goddess, but rather just an exceptional member of an exceptional race of Amazons, gifted by the Olympians with enhanced traits. Sure, she was extraordinarily smart, moral, physically adept, empathic, in tuned with nature... powerful in the sense of the idealized female -- but she wasn't depths-of-space- or warp-core-explosion-surviving powerful. talk to the hand Nowadays, the fight might be too close to call. rolleyes

Part of the problem, I think, is that Marvel has always executed its suspension of disbelief with a bit more forethought. I mean, as a kid I thought Marvel Universe's explanations of powers, genetic mutations, alternate realities, etc. read like Stephen Hawking! headache It was AWESOME! DC has always struck me first as a a teller of absurd modern-day fairy tales, only later backpeddling (a la Crisis on Infinite Earth) to flesh out the metaphysics and continuity of their ridiculous universe (and to make their characters more impressive) in the wake of Marvel's kicking their butts.
[Edited 3/13/09 19:38pm]

Finally, someone who knows what they're talking about. Storm basically has a whole planet, AND space at her disposal. Sorry Diana...

This debate aside, I really preferred Storm the way she was in her introduction in the '70s and for the next 10 or so years, when she could influence weather in just a small range. She was called a goddess in her native village, but Claremont went out of his way to show there were limits and it made her more heroic. Remember back in the day, almost every single battle the X-Men ever fought was to a draw? They really didn't kick all that much ass. But they were definitely heroic and fun to read, much more so than when the powers got so godlike.
