Gun Tattoos, etc.

Works of art or irresponsible showoffing (is that a word?), what do you think? There has been quite a fuss over Rhianna's gun tattoo, some people think it is ill conceived considering she was just recently the victim of domestic violence.

It's starting to look like the less we know about Rhianna's private life, the better.

Yes, I'd say it's "ill-conceived", to say the least.

Am I for tattooing drawings of weapons on your person? No. To me, it's a sign of insecurity and/or stupidity.

I'd go so far as to say most tattoos are "ill-conceived".

I agree it is her body, but shouldn't she try to set a good example to her young impressionable fans? Its not like she is a private individual and nobody will see it. So many kids probably look up to her.

And there's something wrong with having a tattoo?

I wouldn't personally get an image of a weapon done on myself, but then, I'm fairly heavily anti-firearms.

In the end, it's her body, and serious self-harm notwithstanding, it's no one's business but her own what she does with it. If she wants a lil handgun under her armpit, I see no reason she should have to answer to anyone else for it.

I can't be the only person that feels uneasy about this sense of ownership the public seems to want to have over female celeb's bodies, can I? Ms. So-and-so songstress is too fat, Miss X is too skinny, Ma'am Actress has too many tattoos, and on and on. How come we don't pick apart and critique men's bodies the same way?

When did I say there was? I said what are you thoughts on the gun tattoo, not tattoos in general. "A lil handgun under her armpit" is not an innocent little tattoo to a 12 year old who might be a fan and think, wow, guns are cool. That was my only beef to be honest, otherwise I couldnt care less how much she weighs/eats/tatoos herself.

This is where the parent steps in. Its up to the parent to let the child know that everything they see is not always appropriate.

How is that different from, say, a skull tattoo or some other like image that's very popular? What bearing does the fact that she has young fans have on what sort of body art she should have?

You aren't honestly trying to suggest that kids will think a certain thing is cool because they see a singer with a tattooed image of it?

I have to admit, I'm failing to see where you guys are finding inappropriateness in her tattoo. confuse

I've got a great story from yesterday.

My father and mother were walking with my daughter and myself into the Yankees spring training game here in Tampa yesterday. A man walked by with his girlfriend. He was covered with ink. A bio-hazard image was the entire back of his shaved head. My father starts to bitch and moan about how he'll never get a job, how stupid that is, what an idiot...etc. etc.

Pre-game, they unveiled a new 9-11 memorial they are building at the stadium. They had the engineers and architects there also. They introduced them.

Tattoo guy is one of the main architects of the memorial. lol

I mentioned it to dad, and he just smiled. lol

I never said it was appropriate or inappropriate. I think you need to stop making assumptions and focusing on only what YOU think is right. I said that if it is considered inappropriate to a person its none of their business. Its her body. If a parent is worried about the role model crap then the parent needs to talk to their kids if they do not approve. Celebrities are not babysitters. And guns are a form of violence. With the way kids are dying today I can see why some parents may not be happy with this. But this is her body. She can do what she wants. I hope its crystal clear now.

That thing is so teeny it shouldn't even be considered a tattoo. It'll look like an ink stain in about 5 years.

It has nothing to do with that, and everything to do with the style of the tattoo. It's tiny so it's going to lose it's shape quickly...it'll smudge into a blob. That's why I go big nod
