WHAT WOULD U NOMINATE....

As being the greatest or grandest hotel or resort U have stayed at worldwide:

My top 5:

The Crane Resort in Barbados

Sandals Resort in Antigua

Sheraton Towers in London

Sheraton on the Park in Sydney

Quay West Suites in Sydney (yah yah I know Prince stayed there and filmed 3 chains o' gold so it was a must)

Your turn.

P.S. The Four Seasons, here in T.O, is pretty fly.

Historical note: F.S. is a Canadian company and this was the first hotel.

The actual rooms are certainly nothing to write home about (kinda dowdy, actually). The bungalows are a neat a concept and the location can't be beat (it's a hideaway right in the heart of the action).

If you wanna see celebrities, it's an overpriced option. shrug

I've never stayed in a hotel that could be considered "grand". lol I'm a budget traveler.

That said, staying at the Chelsea in New York was awesome. Mainly for the history factor. And seeing all the art from artists who had lived there over the years.

The original Standard in L.A. (West Hollywood) was a cool concept when it first opened, but I hear it's turned into a total cheesefest.

I am the same. If I do not sleep in a tent then it is luxury to me.

The first time I traveled for work they put me up in a hotel suite that was bigger than my apartment. Granted, I was living in a small studio at the time, but still. lol
The hotels I've stayed in when traveling for work have been quite nice, I have to admit, but I still wouldn't call them "grand". They've all been chain hotels without much personality.

I've stayed in a few funky boutique hotels (San Francisco comes to mind as the best) that were cute and fun but still on the budget side. I can definitely appreciate staying in a room that doesn't look like someone died there with bad art screwed in to the wall. But mainly I just need a clean non-smoking room with a shower and a bed not full of lumps. The rest of my travel money can be spent on fun.

What was the original concept of the Standard?

Reasonably-priced for its prime location. Minimalist. Fun.

Quickly became a scene overflowing with douchebags.

Just never really have the chance..the most is driving back home, or down to Texas for a Red Sox/Ranger game.

I would love to travel more...maybe in the future.

I think I'm taking my kids to Beaches in the Turks and Caicos this summer. It's the same company as Sandals only for families.

I think the only really nice place I've stayed in is the Hadlery in San Francisco. It was really nice and pricey for me at the time. I travel on a budget because if I'm on vacation I'm in my room for about 4 hours a day.

I would take the water villas we were in for our honey moon over any fancy hotel any day.
Having privacy, two decks and a ladder straight down the the ocean....can't beat that!
