My baby's heart :o( I had a phone call today from my baby daughter (Elsa)'s cardiologist. Elsa was taken into hospital with a UTI in October, whilst there though they found that she has a heart condition. They transferred her care to a specialist children's hospital where they put her on a mobile ECG machine, first for 2 days, then for a week. Well, they got the results today and it's worse than they orginally thought. She has runs of SVT's (put simply, it means that her heart will spontaneously beat WAY too fast) and she also has ventricular couplets (where her heart will kind of beat twice in one beat... or something like that - I daren't google).

Well, today they found that she's having them a lot more regularly than we originally thought... she's been having runs where her heart is beating at around 270 beats per minute - that's 4 and a half beats per SECOND!!! Luckily she comes out of them herself, but they've put her on a drug called Digoxin. It's not good but they did a heart function test a few weeks ago and it's looking ok from that angle - they just don't want her to be in an SVT for any length of time or her heart could get too tired and she'd go into cardiac failure. Yeah. So. It's not great. But it could be a lot worse. | |
