I find it a little disturbing. I don't see how breastfeeding children that old helps them. I think they need to separate from the mother after a reasonable age. I don't see how that helps their development.

the mother is inferring that the children themselves will know when to stop on their own. so do birds eventually leave the nest?

Birds do eventually leave the nest,this is true...but these aren't birds, nor are they infants any more.
biggrin Tuck the breast back into the shirt...these girls can be close to their mother in many other ways.

i think eventually the mother bird kicks the baby birds out of the nest to get their own food.
