Ghostbusters 3 New Ghostbusters film 'to reunite Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd'
A new Ghostbusters film starring original cast members including Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd is being lined up by a leading Hollywood studio. Two producers of the US version of Ricky Gervais sitcom The Office have been hired by Columbia to write the script, according to the showbusiness magazine Variety. The planned film would be the third in the sci-fi comedy series, in which a team of eccentric ghost exterminators armed with proton packs do battle with paranormal forces around New York. Both Murray, 58, and Aykroyd, 56, would likely be into their 60s by the time the film is released. The 1984 original set box office records for Columbia, and the studio has long been rumoured be in discussions about a follow-up to the 1989 sequel. Progress had been slow because of the likely wage demands of the original cast, Variety reported. But the recruitment of Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, nominated for Emmy awards for their work on The Office, to write the script is being seen as a sign that the film will finally be made. The four original Ghostbusters - Murray and Aykroyd along with Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - will be formally approached when the script is complete. Columbia has declined to comment on the reports, but director John Landis who has worked with Murray on a number of films told the BBC that the project was going ahead. “I'm not involved but I know it's happening," he said. The original Ghostbusters film, which was nominated for two Oscars, is remembered for its striking logo and catchy theme tune, containing the now-famous lyric "Who ya gonna call?". Cant wait. If done well, this could be a really fun movie.
If done poorly...ugh I even hate to think of how bad that movie could be. I'm firmly planted in denial

I didn't much like the second film, but I'm actually a bit happy to hear of this new project. Maybe it's the lingering 1984 in me.
I think Eisenberg and Stupnitsky could do a knockout job on this, though I can't help but feel a bit bad for Harold Ramis. He co-wrote both GB I and II, and he's remembered -- at best -- as "that other guy" along with Ernie Hudson. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I agree...the second GB was not as likeable as the first and I'm a bit happy to hear of the prospect of a GB3. And I agree...Harold Ramis not part of the writing team is off. If done poorly...ugh I even hate to think of how bad that movie could be. UNLESS It's done bad on purpose, a la Elvira; Mistress of the Dark. Then it could really have some fun potential. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
