I'm being conditioned by the corporate machine, aren't I? No - you like what you like and that's cool ( me too ) I guess maybe I look a mess sometimes to many I hand wash my linens then throw them in a warm dryer for a few minutes with a big dry towel then shake them out and hang them - yes they have a bit of crinkle but they do not look like they were wadded up

I hang mine dry and they look atrocious without a quick once-over with the iron. I can see that maybe throwing them in the dryer on low with a towel would do the trick. |

I don't particularly enjoy ironing, but I do like the results.
I remember my mom teaching me to iron - beginning when I was about six, I guess. I started with my dad's handkerchiefs. When I could do those perfectly (no crimps), she taught me to do pillowcases (more difficult because they have two layers of fabric). Finally, I "graduated" to clothing - and she taught me how to iron a shirt. Pressing is also the most important part of sewing - which I do a lot of. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I just gave the sheets and duvet cover a quick press for the spare bed where Miguel will be sleeping next week.

there are laundry services that will press your sheets for you and iron the rest of your stuff, too. There really isn't a reason to do it unless you really want to or just don't have many things to iron. [Edited 5/30/08 10:45am]

You ALWAYS have to iron linen. You're a universal fabricist! When I used to wear linen, I'd always make sure it was ironed. I like the linen crisp.

For sure! The only people who should be using irons are those who do live reinactments in historical theme parks.

Pretty much If you don't overload the dryer and take things out as soon as they are done, hang them up = ZERO crinkles man It's pretty damn easy to not let the fabrics get crinkled up and the husband has no iron dress shirts - pull them outta the dryer shake hang = ZERO crinkles Last thing I ironed was over 15 yrs ago or more Mach, you have just explained my method of ironing! Now I have my kids doing it also, if something is wrinkled, they throw it in the dryer alone with a dryer sheet and presto!

I don't understand how people have entire wardrobes that don't require ironing. Don't you people work for a living? i'll have you know that i not only work for a living, but i work at a large lawfirm amidst covens of republicans and right wing christians. i HAVE to look my best every day or else everyone i work with is going to think i'm a dirtier hippie than they already think i am. my secret is that i simply look at the labels for my work clothes - it's easy to find "wrinkle free" fabrics these days. H&M has tons of dress shirts that are wrinkle free...and cheap!

Well I gotta earn my keep at the moment. I would not mind if the dryer was like the one I used to have. Things come out more wrinkled when they come out than when I put them in. That is what pisses me off.
