Staples I always keep on hand are chicken leg qaurters 5lb bag 4.75 at Wal-mart, beans, rice, soups, pasta, spagetti. Canned tuna is good also.

I am growing my own veggies in a neigbors yard. I also do canned fruit on sale sometimes too.

Lately I have been using Morton's Nature's Blend I think it is called, comes a yellow shaker find it with the salt and pepper. It is low-soduim and has like 6-7 seasons in it and you can use it on any type of meat.

You can save alot with coupons and buying the store brand instead of name brand too. Also visit smaller store like Pic-Pac or Aldi's instead of larger chains.

My wife has been doing a lot of bread baking. Home baked bread can also be a breakfast.

Besides rice we find meals like Goya rice and bean are usually fairly cheap

If it's available in your area see about joining a co-op farm, monthly payments equal fresh vegetables all summer. Some farms let you pay in labor

My family enjoys pasta with sauteed veggies on them. No meat needed, and the kids sprinkle parmesan cheese on the pasta. all dirt cheap.
